Healthcare is defined by groupthink on staggering scale. You don’t need to see the PowerPoints. You don’t need to read the white papers. You don’t need to attend the ideas festivals, industry conferences and big media events to hear the same speakers saying the same thing the same way. The content and the concepts recycle themselves as a loop in time, a massive flywheel sustaining innovation starvation, sustaining perpetual “crisis” spanning generations and geographies and generic results, sustaining structural stalemate, sustaining the status quo. It's leadership by cliche. The capacity to ‘see, say, sell and sustain’ with system vision is a rich vein to mine for originality. No magic wands, hyperspace missions, moonshots to save humanity from itself, generative AI capabilities from technology vendors promoting access to galaxies far, far away. For the first time in a long time, I recently attended Pistoia Alliance's conference in Boston last November 2023...and I was completely ENERGIZED by the experience! I share that comment with you because of two reasons - the first reason is because I want to publicly congratulate Becky Upton PhD, John Wise, M. Hall Gregg, the Pistoia Team, and its Board Members for the incredible transformation of Pistoia's strategy, focus, and the operation of the Alliance. As the saying goes...you've come a long way baby, and this important pre-competitive, non-profit endeavor has come a long way in its journey to add value to the enabling digital technology capabilities for the vitally important Biopharmaceuticals R&D domain. Lives are literally at stake as the hard-working pharma industry, vendor, and other stakeholder communities come together to advance humanity's ability to discover and develop new medicines. There is no better demonstration of the collective impact than was the rapid response to Covid and the countless lives saved through the therapeutic and preventative response. The second reason I am so public with my enthusiasm is because it is "that time of year" when we all reflect on what is important for us to achieve individually and collectively across our work and personal lives...whether in the form of resolutions or annual objectives. I thought that I would share with you all my commitment to a goal of being more intentional in my contributions and impact as and my colleagues at XponentL Data (the emerging data/tech/AI consultancy - www.xponentl.ai) aim for greater impact from our contributions to clients and the industry - we are ALL IN for advancing the strategic priorities of Pistoia, particularly the "Deliver Data-Driven Value" goal (it's description below is almost word for word from our XponentL pitch deck during our stealth mode last spring!) Deliver Data-Driven Value – Data is the foundation for emerging technologies like Generative AI, but the industry still struggles to manage, maintain, and share data effectively. The Pistoia Alliance, a global, not-for-profit alliance that advocates for greater collaboration in life sciences R&D, has announced its four new strategic priorities, and has appointed steering committees to lead collaboration in these areas: ⭐ Harness AI to Expedite R&D, ⭐Deliver Data-Driven Value, ⭐Sustainability Driven R&D and ⭐Accelerate Use of Real-World Data. The priorities were selected in response to the evolving needs of the life science industry amid digital transformation, climate change, and shifts in how research is conducted and healthcare is delivered post-pandemic.

Loved virtually attending the panel on Transforming Healthcare with AI at AI House Davos There has been a tremendous acceleration in practically using AI- from clinical trials, and diagnostics to breakthroughs in drug discovery. In just one year, there’s been a shift from discussing opportunities in GenAI to Gen AI applications in Healthcare! GenAI can make a difference in healthcare delivery, giving healthcare providers the magic of time. GenAI allows us to be high touch, and answer questions that patients might have, such as Ada Health, described as Dr. Google on steroids :), and help doctors make informed decisions. We have to spend the next 12-18 months building trust around AI being used in Healthcare as currently 55% of healthcare providers don’t trust AI, and 33% of patients don't want to provide their health data. As rightly pointed out by Daniella, if we don't have the social permissibility, we can have the best tools but it’s not going to matter! The scepticism around AI for healthcare and the use of personal healthcare data can be combatted through a harmonised regulatory approach and establishing a global regulatory network. The audience questions resonated with these thoughts and were around best practices for sharing data.  We have faith in pharmaceuticals because of the regulatory bodies, it’s high time to build something similar for AI, particularly for healthcare. #responsibleai #healthai #aiforgood #worldeconomicforum #davos

🤔When I hear "AI and productivity" in the same context, I basically hear a lot of pressure on jobs, including QA/RA jobs. 👉Listen to point number 2 in this video from the CEO of a leading pharmaceutical company. ✅You can raise productivity if you: 1️⃣ Maintain the same output, but reduce the inputs (e.g. automation) 2️⃣ Increase the output; keep the same inputs but improve their effectiveness 3️⃣ Increase output as well as reduce the inputs 👉We can easily understand the impact of item 1 on jobs. It has already happened in our industry. 👉Item 2 means, we will need to produce more output in the same amount of time available. This is a very real part of our daily life today, especially when we find ourselves in a bigger company after an acquisition. 👉Item 3 means that we will need to produce a very different kind of output, something that AI cannot produce if we are to keep our jobs. 🛑It is the number 3 above that gives me a reason to worry. This is the new world coming at us ...🚆FAST. ➡️To not only survive, but thrive in this new world, we must: 1️⃣ Collaborate more, share more 2️⃣ Try more, fail more 3️⃣ Ask more, tell less 👆What else would you add to this list above?
