TRY THAT ON FOR SIZE A line is formed off stage. Person A starts on one side of the stage and Person B starts on the other side. Person A is given an activity by the host and begins to do a repetitive action inspired by that activity. For example, if the suggestion is playing basketball, Person A could say “I am shooting a basketball, try that on for size” followed by a repetitive throwing motion. Person B copies the same action, but has to come up with something different that could still make sense, such as “I am swatting a fly, try that on for size.” The players go back and forth, finishing their sentence with ”try that on for size” until one of them runs out of ideas or repeats something that has already been said. Let's celebrate! Today is the United Nations' International Day of Play. This got me thinking about work with play and the importance of introducing Play into our work lives, not just our children's. "Play helps make learning more enjoyable and relevant, enhancing motivation and retention of information." - UN Play is a force of action for business models too. Duolingo - language learning as a game. LinkedIn - a professional network introducing games. Airbnb - selling experiences straight out of your dreams. Mr. Beast - a whole business model built on play. Entrepreneurs are the greatest imaginators of all. You can watch 1,000's of videos on "steps to building a business" (trust me, I've tried) But there is no better way to build a business than through finding out what you truly enjoy building. What role do you like to play, when you play? This informs the role you enjoy at work. So, how can we play more at work to see the benefits of play in our working lives? If you’re working with a large group and you want to make sure they get out of their usual bubble, there’s a simple way to facilitate the mixing up of small group discussions.   👇   Simply give everyone a playing card on arrival.   Then when it’s time to form small groups, invite them to:   🃏 Connect with 3 others who are holding the same suit, or 🃏 Pair up with someone who has the same coloured card as you, or   🃏 Create a group of 4 where your cards add up to 21.   You can give them any instruction you like.   By changing the instruction, you change the make-up of the group.   Not only does it help mix up the conversations, it provides a short brain break as people switch their focus.
