In June, we had the pleasure of hosting Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton's staff for an exclusive tour of #DCA! They got an inside look at our airport operations, airfield, and public safety measures. The visit also included a sneak peek at our upcoming projects and an overview of our community outreach initiatives. #Aviation #CommunityOutreach #AirportOperations #MWAA

2023 was the deadliest year for humanitarian workers. 2024 is on track to be even worse. "This World Humanitarian Day, celebrating humanitarian workers is not enough. We need those in power to act now to ensure the protection of civilians, including humanitarians." The 2024 efforts for the World Humanitarian Day confront the normalization of attacks on civilians, including humanitarians, and impunity under International Humanitarian Law (IHL). The aim is use public support to pressure world leaders to take action to ensure the protection of civilians and humanitarians. By the numbers: 595 humanitarians were victims of attacks in 2023 280 were killed while trying to provide aid to those in crisis 224 were seriously wounded 160 were killed by airstrikes or targeted shelling 93 were killed by state actors, in violation of IHL Targeting humanitarian operators as the means to affect additional suffering on those in crisis is an indirect attack on vulnerable persons, achieved by cutting off access to lifesaving aid. Humanitarian aid workers, as a specific type of noncombatant with specific mandates and protections, engage in crises neutrally, impartially, and humanely. Anything less than an absolute guarantee of their safety and security is reprehensible. #WorldHumanitarianDay #humanitarian #disastermanagement #crisis ACLED (Armed Conflict Location & Event Data) United Nations OCHA

Important research into peacebuilding and caregiving responsibilities. Anyone working in peacebuilding (with or without caregiving responsibilities) can take part by completing the survey. #peacebuilding #carers #genderequality
Sunday 29th of October marked the International Day of Care and Support. It is more important than ever to recognise the impact of care on peacebuilding and to make the sector more gender-responsive. Alongside peacebuilding leaders, we have released this Concept Note calling for more support of peacebuilders with caring responsibilities, and a survey which can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/g3qKeYrn We invite anyone who works/has worked in peacebuilding, with or without caring responsibilities, to participate and raise awareness of the marginalisation of carers in peacebuilding. #peacebuilding #carers #unitednations #internationaldayofcareandsupport #genderequality

Celebrating family milestones in NY this holiday season was truly special. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, symbols of American ideals, highlighted the incredible contributions immigrants make to our economy. 🗽🌍 “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…” These words endure, emphasizing the role of hardworking individuals in building our unparalleled economy. 🇺🇸 Let’s cherish diversity, acknowledging immigrants’ invaluable impact on America’s economic success. 💼🌐 Reflecting on our values, symbols like the Statue of Liberty drew people worldwide to build new lives and a robust economy. 🌎 However, recent events, as shared in this article prompt reflection on how we’ve transitioned from “huddled masses” to present challenges. 🤔 Let’s strive for a compassionate approach, upholding the values that shaped our nation and fueled its prosperity. 🤝🇺🇸 #AmericanValues #ImmigrantCare #newyorkcity #immigrants #family #abetterlife #escapingpoverty https://lnkd.in/gpK6UmHE

The powerful emblem of the Red Cross signifies during an armed conflict: "don't shoot." This emblem indicates that the person, vehicle, place, or team provides neutral and impartial humanitarian aid. World Red Cross Day is celebrated on May 8 to honor Swiss Henri Dunant's birth, who inspired the creation of the world's largest and oldest humanitarian network. Dunant was shocked after witnessing the devastation left by the war on the battlefield in Italy in 1863. He wanted to immediately help all the wounded, regardless of which side they belonged to. This is how the first team to provide first aid in a neutral manner was born in the middle of a conflict. Several years later, the Geneva Conventions adopted the red cross-shaped symbol to protect medical staff who were helping on battlefields. Later, it would be adopted to identify Red Cross services around the world. A single symbol is enough to protect those who wear it during dire situations and communicate a simple message to those in need: "Here comes help." #RedCross #WorldRedCrossDay #Volunteering #HealthWorkers #ISF #InnovativeSolutions #IngeniousSolutions

A City in a State of Flux: A sad, but true message regarding resources, revenue, and humanity. A noble gesture at the expense of others. On Borders and Veterans: Do We Have An Obligation to Those Who've Served? If so, to what extent? When Thank You For Your Service is No Longer Enough: Denver has an abundance of homeless Veterans; many are waiting for thier paperwork to process through the HUDVASH system, which involves federal, state, and city hurdles. On Calling in Support, and Acting with a Sense of Urgency: From initial request for help, to housed is a process that spans eight-weeks to four months. HUDVASH is a great program that all involved should be proud of. Yet, it has bottlenecks that delay service. I know this because I interact with many #Denver based Veterans who wait under ✨ ✨ and bridges - for paperwork to clear. You Break, You Buy: Resiliant, without a bus pass, and long forgotten by the communities that sent them to war - these Veterans suffer with defiant dignity and a sense pride and resilience many cannot understand. #Lipservice #Militaryservice #Veteransuicideprevention

🌍 World Humanitarian Day 2024: It's Time for Change 2023 was the deadliest year on record for humanitarian workers. Sadly, 2024 could be even worse. This is a stark reminder that our world is failing not only those who dedicate their lives to helping others but also the people they strive to support. Today, we extend special recognition to our ChildFund Alliance partners, @ChildFundDeutschland and @WeWorld. Their unwavering commitment on the front lines ensures that children and communities in crisis receive essential support and protection. This #WorldHumanitarianDay, we stand united in demanding an end to the violence and impunity. Attacks on humanitarian workers and civilians must stop now. We need immediate action to protect civilians and humanitarians in conflict zones. Let's #ActForHumanity and push for a safer, more just world. 🌟

Did you know that Indigenous people born in Canada can work in the United States without a green card or work permit? From treaties, to IBAs, MOUs, reserve lands, traditional lands, cultural clans, Chief and Council, hereditary Chiefs, regional Chiefs, Ec Dev Officers, EcDev Corps and so much more, working with First Nation people and communities can be challenging, confusing and intimidating. But it doesn’t have to be. Contact me if your organization needs an Indigenous advisor for your team. https://lnkd.in/gqSY5vum #indigenbiz #indigenous #business #indigenousbusiness #jaytreaty
