Diversity isn't celebrated enough in #Data fields - #DataScience, #DataAnalytics, #DataEngineering. When I started off as a manager, I didn't pay much attention to diversity. I was mainly hiring from university and I was hiring for skillset. Whenever the topic was brought to my attention I used to say "I hire the best skills out there, no matter the background" - which just means that I missed the broader view. 😶 A lot has changed in the past 10 years, and in addition to my personal growth around the subject, today I am also hiring for high performance teams and the mindset is very different. When looking for experienced people, you care much less about the skills they own today, rather the experience and value they bring to the team. Two people with same skillset could bring totally different perspective - their diverse backgrounds can add synergies which you can't compensate with technical skills. For example the ways of learning and sharing knowledge or problem solving patterns due to background differences. And let's be honest, once you value diversity you do that in and out of the workplace - if I look at people closest to me, they are one diverse bunch 😉 Let me know how you see diversity adding value in both personal and professional level - happy to chat & connect. #Diversity #Workplace #DiversityMonth

I took some time today to research about jobs in the Big Data industry. Using various job postings such as the TELUS International AI Data Solutions "Business Analyst II" recent job opening, I carefully noted down: 1. The top 5 most popular big data jobs, 2. The academic requirements 👨🎓 and skills 🛠 needed to land these jobs, 3. Some common duties carried out on the job 📈 💹 🔢 , 4. The data science pipeline, 5. Some resources that could allow potential job seekers to improve their resumes and cover letters and prepare for job interviews, and, 6. Generic skills needed for career success in any field, and how they are applied in the Big Data 📊 space, such as reading and digital skills.
