My opinion piece in the June 17 edition of Les Echos. --> take it as an announcement of our 2024-2025 program 🙂. join the effort here: https://lnkd.in/eckGpgpp “Let’s be the first continent to be decarbonized by 2050 while preserving its competitiveness and prosperity”! Thierry Breton, 🇪🇺Commissioner for the Internal Market, at the 1st general assembly of the EU SMR Alliance. * Without nuclear reactors, small or large, Europe will continue to rely on fossil fuels (wind and solar can only act as complement), * Without a European nuclear industry, 🇪🇺 will be entirely dependent on the 🇺🇸, 🇷🇺, and 🇨🇳. However, if nuclear projects on the continent are plentiful, all acknowledge the impact of cross-cutting issues that will not easily disappear. - an industrial fabric not at scale yet, still fragmented, and insufficiently configured for the task ahead; - insufficient training offerings though with more candidates; - timid and uneducated financing industry’ interest; - a fragile public opinion; - a decision-making processes subject to a, still predominantly hostile, civil society; - a constraining regulatory framework with as many versions as there are Member States. ✖ Addressing these challenges is imperative; without it, 🇪🇺 will not be decarbonized by 2050 or later, nor will it achieve prosperity or competitiveness. The European nuclear sector needs all the assets at its disposal. 🌟And yet, the joker that could change everything is absent of conversations, strategic plans, and of the ambitious, yet inherently precarious, projections of the EU when it comes to its energy future: Germany 🇩🇪. 🇩🇪 A nuclear power - 30% of electricity from nuclear power in 2011, 17 only-recently-shut-down reactors, efficient fuel cycle installations, research programs, competent and operational safety authority, engineers, students, and researchers. The only “other” designer of nuclear power plants, which should have been both a competitor and a partner to France. 🇩🇪 An industrial nation, exhausted under the yoke of the Energiewende to the point it is relocating away;  🇩🇪 A population whose priority is no longer nuclear phase-out despite the lies it has been fed, given the concrete consequences on its level and quality of life;  🇩🇪 An ultra-central geographical position connected to all the heavyweights of the electrical network and the dark knight of European energy policy choices. Germans were in favor of extending the life of nuclear power plants, business suffers severely from energy prices and instability, and politics are now divided on the subject.  ➡ Germany can change as France has recently done while bearing the same stigmas. 🔴 We will not be able to decarbonize Europe, give it energy independence, and keep it prosperous without Germany regaining its place among the leaders of the global nuclear industry. https://lnkd.in/e6f-N93K

Il n’y aura pas de relance du nucléaire en Allemagne 🇩🇪. Cela n’a plus aucun sens désormais, ne serait-ce que pour des questions de délai. L’essentiel de la transition énergétique sera terminé vers 2035 en Allemagne.

We shall see how long it will take for reality to overcome 40+ years of brainwashing.

Strengthening the public opinion is key to a lot of issues, including energy.
