I am delighted to announce that Susannah Howard will be presenting two insightful sessions at the Imperial College "Leading Systemic Innovation in Healthcare" executive education programme, offering invaluable perspectives and strategies for advancing healthcare. Susannah Howard is the Integrated Care Partnership Director of the Integrated Care System at Suffolk and North East Essex (#SNEE). She has pioneered initiatives that enhance collaboration across health, care and local #council services, focusing on creating cohesive, patient-centred care models. She brings practical insights from how SNEE has gone on the journey from transcending silos to systems of care and become the top performing ICS in the country. Session 1: This session will explore the development of Integrated Care Systems (ICS) in England. Susannah will highlight the systemic thinking that has led to the success of Suffolk and North East Essex #ICS. The key themes in this first session include: - Importance of #health and #care systems as #ecosystems. - Relationship-based vs. mechanistic thinking in healthcare. - Outcome-based approaches and future challenges. - Differences between outcomes, benefits, and outputs. - Importance of people and technology in change implementation. Create pathways for underrepresented individuals to assume leadership roles and influence policy decisions. Cultural Competence Training: Provide ongoing training on cultural competence to healthcare professionals, enabling them to provide patient-centered care that respects diverse backgrounds and beliefs. Policy Advocacy: Advocate for policies that promote equity in healthcare, including addressing disparities in access, insurance coverage, and treatment outcomes. Research and Evidence-Based Practices: Encourage research that examines the impact of diversity on healthcare outcomes and identifies effective interventions for reducing disparities. Promote the integration of evidence-based practices that improve healthcare equity. Continuous Assessment and Improvement: Regularly assess the effectiveness of DEI initiatives through feedback from students, faculty, staff, and patients. Adjust strategies based on feedback and evolving best practices. Advancing DEI in the health professions requires a sustained commitment from educational institutions, healthcare organizations, policymakers, and the broader community. Many thanks to Molly Jensen, the Emeritus team and the Emory University - Goizueta Business School Executive Education's Chief Medical Officer Program for having me. It was a pleasure speaking to this group of rising leaders in healthcare and having an open conversation on what it means to achieve your pinnacle role.   Taking the next big step in any career involves openly communicating and collaborating with your team, having strong mentors and mapping intentional experiences that will lead you toward your pinnacle role. As I shared during my talk, I’ve found there are three critical steps for any professional looking to advance their career:   ➡️ Continue to be curious and invest in education and leadership development. New technologies are rapidly developing, and it’s important to enhance these skill sets.   ➡️ Give back by developing others. Never underestimate how mentoring people can be a catalyst for continuous learning and career growth.   ➡️ Define your legacy and map your career path with a focus on your pinnacle role.   Every experience provides a new opportunity to learn and grow. There will be detours along the way, but it’s important to trust the journey. I’ve been fortunate to have several diverse experiences and inspiring mentors that led me to where I am within the Office of the Chief Medical Officer at Johnson & Johnson.   I look forward to following what’s next for this group of emerging CMOs as we collectively work to help advance patient safety.   #CareerDevelopment #Mentorship #mycompany

https://lnkd.in/ej3TTjBP Very intriguing perspective on the reason nothing is working to transform healthcare, from new apps to value- based care. The author, who happens to be a physician, believes that the real problem is a failure of doctors to take charge, reclaim their lost "professional dominance," if you will. The author makes a good argument for role transformation being necessary in order to promote change from the ground up, with doctors taking a strong leadership role in promoting change within institutions. This piqued my interest because of my lifelong dedication to applying role theory to the administration of human service organizations, the premise being that if you change the behavior of the role performers, you can bring their performance into better alignment with the purposes of the organizations they serve, with good results. So I have no problem with the doctors reassuming responsibility for administrative functions and assuming their rightful leadership position, with a significant caveat. You lost your authority before, because of a failure to collaborate effectively with other professions. If you really want to see change you need to include other professions within this coalition and advance an interdisciplinary professional leadership. But I would not argue with the importance of first becoming comfortable with a transformed role conception that would inspire leadership within the medical profession.
