Just over 18 months ago I had decided to start a business and I was at home with lots of butcher’s paper on the walls deciding on a name for it. My wife, kids and friends were challenging me on each one and the relevance to my business. As have many others. So why Beacon Consult.? Why Beacon? We reside in Port Melbourne, an inner city suburb of Melbourne Australia. For over a century Port Melbourne has been a gateway for immigrants and visitors arriving by boat. One of the area’s iconic beacons can be seen from our home, a guide to so many for so long. Our country has been built on this immigration, and think of all the steps taken by new arrivals to discover happiness and meet the very lofty goal of a new life. In the same way I want to guide clients to their future, along a crafted path, to fulfil their own biggest dreams. And Consult? My wife is a marketer. For one thing she said ‘Consulting’ was too boring. But Consult is more specific. It talks to the power of connection, of having meaningful conversations, of listening with intent to understand the real and unique challenges a client has and provide the best advice possible. At a time when people and organisations have been losing trust in big consultancies, maybe we need to revert to core consulting behaviours. I have worked 10 years in management consulting (PwC, EY, BearingPoint) but a bigger portion of my career has been working in multiple industries in ‘the real world’. I believe this breadth makes me a much better consultant and a much better problem solver for my clients. And the full stop? Signifying all good conversations not only need intent, but a conclusion, and perhaps actions indicating some type of progress or change. Plus it is a piece of marketing magic. Apparently. So that’s it. No made-up words. No AI-generated names. It’s as simple as it sounds. #vision #beacon #clarity #lifegoals

The third and final module of the 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 2023/2024 last week marked the end of a journey! 𝘖𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺? 🧐   📅 Stefan Köstner and Sue De'Ath have mastered putting together an 𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦. Over the course of the last 12 months, we were inspired by keynote speakers, challenged during project work, developed out of our comfort zone, and were all able to grow 10 centimeters taller by focusing on our strengths and leveraging the power of feedback. The last module was just a reminder and the beginning of carrying this people & growth focus with us continuously in every future role ahead.    🚀 When 27 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐳 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 from all around the globe met for the first time in March last year, we were all strangers to each other, only connected by the drive and hunger for our own development. I can proudly say that now it's more about what is connecting us and will keep us connected for a lifetime. The genuine support and care for one another, mixed together with fun and a bit of suffering 😉, embracing our differences but more importantly our joint values and drivers, were the glue needed to form long-lasting relationships 💙   👯♀️ A fundamental part of the program was 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, where I was the luckiest person 🍀 being paired up with the wonderful Laura Gersch. Laura not only offered me advice and inspiration but also a level of openness and transparency I'd never expected. Through job shadowing in Munich and regular catch-up calls, I got a feeling for a highly competent finance leader who is able to prevail with a high focus on people, an impressive level of structure & prioritizing, and functioning as a role model for networking and building a personal brand. Her way of thinking and acting supported my onboarding in my new role in Allianz Croatia enormously.   🌟 We had the honor of having Claire-Marie Coste-Lepoutre join us for a session on the very last day of the module where she shared her 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The role of the Finance function as the 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐫 & 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 serves as a guide for our future actions. Her concrete agenda and mission ahead will accompany me personally as I serve as a finance leader in the Allianz World 📈🌍 Thank you! #financerisingstar #Allianz #development

My highlight of last week? The Global Service Centre offsite in Cologne, led by the new Head of GSC Emmanuel CLAVIER. Gathering over 120 teammates together for the first time. We covered many exciting topics:   🏆 Achievements: We reflected on our numerous accomplishments in 2023, especially in delivering best in class Quality of Service (QoS). It's clear that when we focus, we can truly achieve remarkable results.    🔝 Priorities Ahead: This year, we’ll continue to focus on our QoS journey, refine the GSC’s vision, and secure greater visibility for the work done by this tireless team!   📊 Measures: How can we help our QoS measures further evolve in direct link to the business impact? This was the main topic during a challenging Q&A session, which left us with food for thought.   📈 Pulse Check (employees survey): Wellbeing is key! And we’ll continue our efforts to support our GSC colleagues in their wellbeing at work.   📚 Learning and Development: It’s important our teams stay at the forefront of their fields - let’s make the time for more training and upskilling so we can encourage development. 🙌 Fun: we also had some fun together, enjoying a nice dinner and getting to know each other better. What to do when curiosity becomes greater than the loss of what I'm leaving behind? Tough decision! In my case: The last 2 weeks have been very emotional, full of memories and interaction with people, who have been accompanying my way with Allianz for the last 28 years. Thanks for all the appreciating feedback – especially those I didn’t expect, be it from people or to different topics/achievements not on my mind 😊 On my own request I am stepping down from my position as member of the Management Board of Allianz Austria in October ’24 after wonderful 28 years to pursue new opportunities outside of Allianz. For all those years Allianz has been my professional home and base for development and learning: has it been underwriting, sales, product & pricing, portfolio management, market management or in my last position customer service & technology – I am grateful for these incredible and diverse experiences at Allianz. Developing people and transforming business have been my joy and priorities all those years. We achieved a lot in improving KPIs, but laying the foundation for an improved culture is probably the biggest achievement throughout the company and its future. Thanks to all who supported and shared my way – I very much enjoyed working with you, the endless conversations and the fun we had in all those years. Despite all these learnings, curiosity now drives me to embark on something entirely new. I will take a longer break to spend more time with family, travelling and learning. And then I will decide on what my new venture will be. My successor will be Jovana Novic - Jovana you will do great, I wish you all the best. More than 2 months left for me to finalize a few things, prepare handover and happy to meet & talk to people who crossed my path over all the years.
