Another summit reached! Officially finished with graduate school! It has been an incredible 2 years full of learning, growth, and challenges. Proud to have completed my M.A. in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University School of Leadership Studies Several years ago, graduate school wasn't something I would have thought of. Yet my career journey repeatedly had me considering leadership principles and theories. How leadership is so impactful on individuals, teams, and organizations. How leadership can impact the trajectory of peoples lives, not just their day to day tasks. The impact of showing up for those in your professional and personal lives with authenticity, integrity, and empathy. The question persists: "Who do you choose to be?" Recently I’ve had the privilege to participate in the "Boards That Lead" executive education course at The Wharton School. This program offered deep dives into effective board governance, strategic leadership, and the dramatically changing role of board directors in today's business environment. The key takeaways for me were: 1. Ask lots of questions 2. The Board should work with the CEO to establish priorities for it to focus on each year, and ensure it spends its time on those priority items 3. Be transparent with the CEO; get external data points but do not go behind his/her back 4. Board Directors must think like an activist investor, not like company insiders 5. When selecting a CEO, take the time to identify *the pivot* and select a candidate that is well suited to execute on the pivot These are concepts I look forward to applying in my future endeavors.
