[Coaching A to Z: E Reflection] Diane Abbey-Livingston, a brilliant mentor who introduced me to the world of Social Construction and Appreciative Inquiry, taught me a simple phrase:  "When in doubt, take an M.R.I." Huh? Magnetic Resonance Imaging? No, "the Most Respectful Interpretation." This wonderful advice sustained me through many sticky situations I faced personally and professionally. Many teams I worked with experienced what it's like to just a take moment and observe what other interpretations or what other imaginations are possible and useful. As you think of a situation, relationship, or interaction that you found puzzling, how else might you interpret the intentions of others involved? What else might be possible? Who else might have different (and more respectful) views on this? And what might be the Most Respectful Interpretation of their intentions? Feel free to share your responses to the following reflection questions for the letter E: - Think about a small decision that, after you made it, turned out to be a great decision. What did you learn from that experience? - What is a memorable story you have about yourself? What other interpretations of it might be available? - Suppose you met your younger self from that memory. Excited to share highlights from our sixth ontological coaching weekend! 😄 These two sessions were particularly transformative as we delved into the assumptions and core principles that distinguish this coaching approach. We explored three key assumptions that emphasize the profound role of language in our lives: 1️⃣ We are the only species that are linguistic beings. 2️⃣ We use language not just to describe the world (locutionary force) but also to create new realities through declarations, judgments, and promises—powerful speech acts driven by illocutionary force. 3️⃣ We shape our identities and govern our lives through language. 💡 Understanding these epistemological pillars has been enlightening, and I'm eager to start integrating this approach into my coaching practice. #OntologicalCoaching #Coach #ProfessionalGrowth #ECOA
