I'm halfway through a book of this title after buying it based on a post by Doug Lemov and have to say-- If you're an expert - read this as a refresher and source to share with newbies. If you're in EdTech and never really taught - read this to accurately gauge the complexity of teaching and learning. If you're a teacher or admin and your goal is to simplify your work to the bare essence of effective teaching and learning - read this. If you're old like me and wonder what's going on in your brain -- read this! Recommend an excellent, recently published book "Desirable Difficulties in Action": https://lnkd.in/esmgNdyd by Isaac Moore and Jade Pearce. We all think we know how to learn, but it's often better for learners to do so counter-intuitively by encountering challenging conditions during the learning process ("desirable difficulties"). These may seem to be an obstacle but help retention and so long-term learning. Examples are spacing out or interleaving learning, or taking a test. To quote from the book: “Spacing makes the learning process more challenging as between each episode some forgetting occurs. However this forgetting also allows for greater storage strength and so supports long-term retention.” It is an great, easy to read and short book, presenting these important ideas very well with practical examples. Important for anyone involved in learning and teaching.
