What Defines A "Power Breakfast"? A couple of days ago I traversed rush hour traffic from Brooklyn to get to the Upper East Side by 8:30am. By invitation from the incomparable Breanna Zwart (she/her/ella), I shared a meal with Founder & CEO of Goal Setter Tanya Van Court, CEO of TheLi.st Ann Shoket, Civic Entrepreneur Heidi Sieck, and California State Controller Malia Cohen -- responsible for overseeing a statewide budget of $455B! Over black coffee and avocado toast, we quickly discovered we were women that wanted to help other women (and gender non-conforming/non-binary people) become more powerful. This felt especially meaningful to openly recognize on Juneteenth when equity is being challenged across the US. After our meal I sat in a park to bask in the glow of our camaraderie and connect with what made our time together so meaningful. A few things came to mind: 🥐 We actively listened to express respect 🥐 We each shared what we needed and could offer (without limit) 🥐 We validated each other and gave "yes and" statements 🥐 We swiftly followed up over email Will you join me in redefining "power breakfast" to being less about getting down to business and more about showing up with power to give it away? Breanna, thank you again for exemplifying what it means to be a woman who invites other women to the table. #equity #inclusion #diversity #DEI #juneteenth #blackwomenleaders #blackfounders #california #newyork #womeningovernment #womenleaders #entrepreneurship #womenfounders #powerbreakfast #empoweredwomenempowerwomen
