We’re in a talent shortage, a lot of these recent grads come tech savvy and ahead on technology. So they can really help companies innovate and grow. Next is culture. Think about your firsts job, you’re so excited, your energy is high, you bring a unique perspective to companies. And lastly, opportunity for long-term growth. I told a class of eighth graders yesterday when I knew recruiting was the profession for me... What a privilege it was to speak again at the Career Day at Mendez Fundamental Intermediate School. It was my third time speaking to a few eighth-grade classes about what a career in recruiting looks like. The kids were great! A little shy but attentive and engaged. They asked great questions. I was neither the best nor the most engaged student and I give back by attending these Career Days so that maybe I can reach a kid like me at that age. Here is what I told the kids about how I knew recruiting was for me: Three months into my career my first-ever placement called me one evening to thank me for helping him get a new job. "You changed my life," he told me. And I've been hooked on recruiting ever since. My business partner Chris Caporicci and I have built Mission Recruiting on our mission statement: to provide the best recruiting experience for our clients, candidates, and team members. I've seen tier-3 college grads match tier-1 college grads in skill. Yet, they're often overlooked when it's paycheck time. I realized I had a flawed view on hiring norms. Typically, it's all about the 'right' college name on the resume. What's overlooked? The drive to succeed and excel. I took a chance on a tier-3 grad because they showed an unmatched eagerness to learn. Despite their less prestigious alma mater, I brought them on board. My choice raised eyebrows, and my team questioned it. Now, I proudly claim it as a pivotal moment in my career.
