Happy Kwanzaa! Curious about Kwanzaa and how to celebrate? Check out our guide on each of the seven principles to celebrate each day: Dec 26 - Umoja (Unity): To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race. Dec 27 - Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves. Dec 28 - Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brother's and sister's problems our problems and to solve them together. Dec 29 - Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics): To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together. Dec 30 - Nia (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. Dec 31 - Kuumba (Creativity): To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it. Jan 1 - Imani (Faith): To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

Not as intended, but expected. Projects take a life on their own, sometimes you put out to the world and then it echoes, learning and connections are created. The series of documentary videos we produced in "Weaving Journeys" Funded by and in partnership with Textile Museum of Canada this year, are helping others learn more about the Afghan cultural pieces, (example: rugs) and the beauty that exist in challenging times. In video 1, "An Act of Kindness",Shahla speaks about connection to homeland is created by sharing joy and kindness even the face of hardship and change. Assisting in the production of these videos will always be one of my favorite, most rewarding experiences. https://lnkd.in/g-kE3XMR See the rest of the videos: https://lnkd.in/gEeFskEP

🙏🏾🛐🙏🏾 Galatians 3:24-28 King James Version Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. https://lnkd.in/eKpGJq-A

I am celebrating LeBron James for Kujichagulia -- the second day of Kwanzaa! As you likely know-- Kwanzaa is a Celebration of African-American Culture and Values 🌿 It's a unique African-American holiday celebrated from December 26th to January 1st. It’s a time to honor African heritage, focusing on family, community, and culture. Kwanzaa is marked by vibrant traditions, including lighting the Kinara, storytelling, music, and a grand feast, symbolizing the rich tapestry of African-American history and values. 🔥 Day Two: Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) Kujichagulia, the second principle of Kwanzaa, inspires us to define, name, create, and speak for ourselves, shaping our destiny. A shining example of Kujichagulia is LeBron James, a legendary athlete who has transcended the courts to impact his community positively. The short clip is from the opening day of his "I Promise School". His school is also featured in the documentary “More Than an Athlete." And it is a testament to his commitment to education and the empowerment of at-risk youth in his hometown. His efforts embody the essence of self-determination, not just in excelling in sports but also in making a tangible difference in society. This Kwanzaa, let’s draw inspiration from figures like LeBron James and commit to defining our path and uplifting our communities. #KwanzaaCelebration #Kujichagulia #SelfDetermination #LeBronJames #MoreThanAnAthlete #CommunityEmpowerment 👉 Follow this page for more insights into Kwanzaa and how its principles can inspire and drive us forward.

We are all in it together: The story of Kenyan runner Abel Mutai and Spanish runner Ivan Fernandez is a powerful testament to the values we hold dear. As Mutai neared the finish line, confusion clouded his path, causing him to stop prematurely, believing he had completed the race. Fernandez, trailing closely behind, recognized the situation unfolding and selflessly urged Mutai to continue, despite the language barrier between them. Fernandez's poignant reply echoed with humility and wisdom: "It was his race. What is the merit of my victory if it comes at the cost of someone else's dignity?" This touching exchange forces us to reflect on the values we instill in our children and the impact they have on our communities. Are we fostering a culture of competition at any cost, or are we cultivating empathy, support, and the courage to uplift one another? In a world where exploiting weaknesses is commonplace, let us be the beacon of light that strengthens others, celebrates their successes, and cherishes the true honor of victory – not just for ourselves, but for all. Let us aspire to a community where we all strive for victory, together.
