🤖 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗝-𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲, 𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗦’ 𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 🚀 It is our pleasure here at #RRIS to have J-Anne, our dedicated researcher and PhD student, sharing an insightful conversation about her journey and fascinating research project at RRIS involving an assistive robot arm. Here are some key highlights from our chat: 🎓 What Led to J-Anne Joining RRIS? J-Anne's interest in RRIS was sparked during her Final Year Project (FYP) where 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗔𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗶 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 (𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗦’ 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿). Recognising the immense value in this experience, she decided to continue her journey with RRIS by pursuing a PhD. The prospect of continuous learning and growth in such a supportive environment motivated her to take this path. The 2 driving forces that motivated J-Anne are: having a direct, positive impact on the community, as well as having the 𝘂𝗻𝘄𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗔𝗻𝗴. 💪 Challenges Faced and Finding Purpose However, the world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. Navigating the unknown, grappling with the right direction, and identifying personal strengths within the broader scope of work were some of the hurdles J-Anne encountered. 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗔𝗻𝗴'𝘀 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀, helped J-Anne identify gaps in the market and carve out her niche in the research landscape. In the context of medical education, impact refers to the measurable outcomes and effects of educational interventions, programs, or innovations on learners, educators, healthcare systems, and ultimately, patient care. This includes both short-term and long-term changes resulting from medical education activities. While the above definition isn't wrong, it is outdated within the realm of today's technologies and methodologies. Here at Medscape Education we are not just "measuring" impact, but instead, we are "guaranteeing" impact of education. If you were one of your clients, customers or colleagues, what would you expect from you, that would make you describe you as excellent? Last week we had the pleasure of delivering several workshops for the NHS. One of theses was to 65 consultants from Clatterbridge cancer trust. I had the wonderful Amanda Alexander alongside me. We were up-skilling and refreshing their skills as educational and clinical supervisors. These are the doctors that are responsible for the development of junior doctors. In a busy schedule we started by asking the question "What does excellence in supervision look like at Clatterbridge?" The responses were varied and included some common themes such as. ✅ Approachable ✅ Flexible ✅ Enthusiastic ✅ Motivational ✅ Proactive ✅ Holistic ✅ Aware of neuro diverse needs in trainees and, my favourite, 😃 Not grumpy! I suspect there was a lot of reflection going on from a time when these participants were trainees themselves! The list included things they may have received, but definitely wanted, when they were trainees. Do you think about what excellence looks like in your role or business? The C-Path team was incredibly humbled to be a part of IgNight ALS last night in Washington, D.C., honoring Steve Gleason and celebrating the release of his new book, A Life Impossible: Living with ALS: Finding Peace and Wisdom Within a Fragile Existence. A heartfelt thank you to Answer ALS for including Critical Path Institute's Klaus Romero, Laura Hopkins, MS, MLS, Michael Minchik, and Thomas H. in this significant event. C-Path’s CEO, Klaus Romero, had the honor of serving on an esteemed panel alongside political strategist James Carville, Microsoft's Fred Humphries, Danielle Carnival, PhD, of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Farhad Imam from Gates Ventures, Jeffrey Rothstein from Johns Hopkins Medicine and Emily Baxi from Public Health at the Milken Institute. This experience has only strengthened our commitment to end ALS. C-Path remains dedicated to leveraging our public-private partnership model to transform ALS data into actionable scientific solutions, accelerating drug development for the benefit of those living with ALS and their families. "A blend of highs and lows." Q1 was a mix of thrills, some disappointments, and everything in between for me at Orius Medical. Highs: ✅ We successfully concluded a second cohort at the Orius Fellowship, processing applications from 15 African nations. ✅ We collaborated with another Africa-focused organization that shares similar goals and values with us. ✅ We recorded our highest entries of paid therapy sessions. ✅ I spoke at 2 mental health-focused events. ✅ I celebrated with my parents on their wedding anniversary. ✅ My baby boy grew out his first set of teeth. Lows: ❌ We failed to close a 6-figure deal at Orius Medical. ❌ Personally, I had to let go of a promising 7-figure deal. 🤧 ❌ I was unable to implement a personal project and had to postpone it to June. ❌ I did NOT get enough physical or mental rest in Q1, and it affected some of my relationships. All in all, I am grateful. Q1 had some setbacks but Q2 comes with bigger but SMARTer goals in my personal life and for all of us at Orius Medical.
