Facing the repercussions of collateral consequences, today I speak not only for myself but for the countless voiceless individuals too ashamed to speak out. Despite submitting 358 job applications on LinkedIn alone, numerous first, second, third, and final round interviews, as well as hypothetical assignments, I remain unemployed. I am the originator of the movement that birthed the "keep them home" initiative, tirelessly advocating to bring individuals home, assisting in legal battles, and fighting various violations. Notwithstanding strong connections with leaders in the movement and relationships with federal, state, and local officials, a robust employment record and being a sought-after advocate, panelist and strategist, I remain unemployed. My qualifications speak for themselves, yet I am overlooked. Though everyone acknowledges my value behind closed doors, I am still awaiting invitations into those rooms. My calls for assistance have gone unanswered. It is disheartening that my continuous efforts to help, whether for justice-involved individuals or anyone in need, seem to go unanswered. This narrative reflects the harsh reality faced by justice involved individuals and underscores the importance of acknowledging the collateral consequences. Remember my face, my story, and the silent struggles of many others like me.
