📊 NEW #cancerresearch !! Effect of #exercise interventions on hospital length of stay and admissions during cancer treatment: a systematic review and meta-analysis This is a very important question that many #exerciseoncology professionals are faced with daily when working within #healthcare systems. During many of our consulting projects with health systems, we definitely found this correlation and many of the same barriers of heterogeneity and lack of understanding of how other factors such as other multi-disciplinary care team members contributed, the patient's support system as well as factors such as demographics or health literacy. Important and critical work that we must continue especially in the value-based care model! Overview : ✅ meta-analysis reveals that incorporating exercise into cancer treatment significantly reduces hospital length of stay by 1.40 days and lowers admission rates by 8%. While the effect size is modest and the evidence is of low quality, these findings suggest the potential for exercise to enhance patient outcomes during chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and stem cell transplant regimens. As cancer care pathways evolve, integrating exercise as a standard practice could offer a valuable dimension to multidisciplinary care plans. 🏥💪 #CancerCare #ExerciseInterventions #PatientOutcomes 🌟

Listening to Cleo A. Ryals, PhD speak about the implementation of diversity plans in clinical trials at the Friends of Cancer Research-sponsored event, "Enhancing Diversity in Clinical Trials." One interesting approach mentioned was the use of live time data from EHR to prompt clinicians about available clinical trials for their patients. Promising developments in the field! #clinicaltrials #diversityinresearch #diversetrials

It’s so interesting to see these real time developments as I learn about the concepts behind them. This is such an important line of research to prevent people going down the path of stronger and stronger opiates.
#JNeurosci: Using mice and rats, researchers from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center suggest blocking mGluR5 or stopping its interaction with N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors could reduce increased pain sensitivity and tolerance caused by opioids, making them more effective for pain relief.
