Creator Supercar Blondie has launched a luxury car auction platform called SBX Cars. Alex Hirschi, aka Supercar Blondie, started posting pictures of luxury cars to Instagram in 2015. Today, she is the world’s most-followed automotive creator with over 115 million followers across social media. Last week, Alex launched SBX Cars, a global premium car auction platform bringing together car buyers and sellers from all over the world. The platform will sell the hypercars and other expensive toys she’s become famous for showcasing. “There’s a gap in the market,” says Hirschi. “We receive a lot of people asking if we have a buyer for one of their unique cars, and we have other people saying, ‘Hey, I want to find this car. I can’t find it anywhere. Do you know of someone?’ There are incredibly wealthy people sitting in markets that no one is serving, and they are watching.” Sellers pay a one-time listing fee of $250, while buyers pay a 5% commission over their transaction. SBX Cars will start by opening 15 to 20 auctions per week and will scale up from there. Auctions will last from seven to 14 days. The new platform has already more than $100 million in consignments ready to be auctioned. SBX Cars has a unique advantage in comparison to other auction platforms with the social power of Supercar Blondie. They can create videos of their cars ready for auction and generate millions of views, increasing the odds of finding the right buyer and probably also increasing the price. And if she can generate the highest sales, more car collectors will trust her to sell their cars leading to more supply. It’s basically a flywheel. More views > more potential buyers > probably higher prices > more car collectors wanting to sell their car on SBX Cars > more supply > more views > etc. You get the point. Have you ever been unhappy looking at your colleague smiling? I have! I was in the process of closing a sale with a couple who had come into our showroom looking for a 520d MSport. My colleague came over with a massive smile on his face and said "I've just sold that!" I don't think I've ever seen a man so happy. You see, this was the second 520d MSport that I was about to close with the same couple only to have it sold. Here's how it unfolded; "I have one 520d MSport left. It's in our other branch. Let me show you on the website here." I pulled up the car. "We said we don't like white but, we'll take it!' What just happened here? I learned some very important lessons that day. 1. I don't always like to see my colleagues happy. 2. The scarcity principle is an extremely powerful motivator in sales. The couple did not want to lose out on their third 520d MSport and bought the car. Luckily when I brought the car up, they loved it. #sales #scarcityprinciple #salescoach

“I’ve been watching a variety of online chats about selling strategies for online auctions. They revolve around whether it is better to list a car with a reserve (a minimum price that must be met or the car doesn’t sell) or no reserve (the highest bid takes the car, no matter how low). Your approach to this will depend on whether you are a dealer who has a certain margin that needs to be met, or a hobbyist who is just selling a car because you are done with it. A third component is whether you are greedy or not.
