Today is the 1st of September, workers may be exposed to heat conditions from now on. Here are the tips to keep you safe from heat stress or heat exhaustion. #What is Heat Stress? Heat stress occurs when the body is unable to cool itself by sweating. Heat stress can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. °Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion: Headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting Weakness and moist skin, Mood changes, irritability, confusion, Nausea and vomiting. °Symptoms of Heat Stroke: Dry, hot skin with no sweating Mental confusion or loss of consciousness Seizures or convulsions. °Preventing Heat Stress: Know signs/symptoms of heat related illnesses. Block out sun or other heat sources. Before you ask - yes, this is exactly what you think it is. One of the best and most obvious signs of dehydration is the color of your urine. The work day can move quickly and it can be easy to let hydration hit the back burner, but make sure to monitor urine color during hot work days. The color chart above provides guidance on when it might be time to mix in some H2O! A few other signs to look for in yourself and others: - Lingering fatigue - Lightheadedness and thirst - Dry mouth - Not urinating regularly Dehydration can be the start of heat stress and other ailments, so it is important to monitor hydration levels and supplement with electrolytes when necessary.
