This week I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the dynamic world of the management and treatment of rare diseases, and specifically Pompe disease, at the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM) Annual Symposium 2023. Congresses like this remind us of the collective strength of the scientific community in driving innovation and progress. The wealth of data, insights, and case studies exchanged holds immense potential to meaningfully impact the landscape of care for individuals living with rare conditions. And at Sanofi, innovation is not just a buzzword. Our most recent data in #Pompe disease builds on our decades long commitment to enhance outcomes for a wide-range of individuals grappling with this condition – those with early-onset and late-onset forms, children and adults, and both the newly-diagnosed and previously-treated. #SSIEM2023 #chasingthemiraclesofscience with Burcu Eryilmaz

This afternoon, our team (Apeksha Shenoy) at #ISPORAnnual will present the poster (EPH149; 3037) entitled “Regional Dynamics and Prevalence of COVID-19 Variants in the U.S. Health and Human Services Regions” ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research Our team investigated #COVID19 variants across #HealthAndHumanServices (#HHS) regions in the U.S. Utilizing #RealWorldEvidence from a national database, we monitored four #COVID variants: #Delta, #Omicron BA-5, #Alpha, and XBB. 1.5. We examined these strains across #HHS regions at three-month intervals. Our findings indicated clear regional patterns of distribution. The Delta variant surged in the #KansasCity region, the Alpha variant in the #SouthEast, and XBB. 1.5 in the #NorthEast. The Omicron subvariant BA.5. was unique as it exhibited a spread nationwide. This research plays a crucial role in understanding regional dynamics of #COVID19Variants. By providing detailed insights into the geographical prevalence of specific variants, our study offers valuable information for future targeted public health strategies and policies. To learn more about this study and others, please visit Boston Strategic Partners at Booth 618. One important gain from the COVID-19 pandemic response is the establishment of Molecular Laboratories across the country. This changed the landscape in terms of preparedness and response. From a handful of labs with molecular diagnostic capacity pre-pandemic to several hundreds established amidst the pandemic (what a feat!), even in remote and far-flung areas. Fast forward to 2024, hundreds of Molecular Labs have closed down due to lack of support. The public health threat of Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases is ever-present, we can't afford to lose such important gains from the past response. Labs need sustained support and trained responders need to be maintained in top form - at least a few per region. The question remains, how do we transition them successfully beyond COVID-19 testing and maximize their utility for clinical diagnostics or disease surveillance such that they are ready for future health emergencies? Can LGUs support them? We cannot go back to square one. #pandemicresilience #publichealth

📣 We are pleased to announce the publication of a Diagnostics Report from the #100DaysMission Science and Technology Expert Group (STEG) and FIND. This new report encourages key stakeholders to embed best practice between pandemics, and highlights the need for faster and wider availability of diagnostics, especially in low-income countries 🔬 Three critical enablers are highlighted for diagnostic best practice: 🧪 Multiplex testing to enhance health systems’ surveillance capabilities 🌐 Digital connectivity to integrate diagnostics with patient care and surveillance systems 🏥 Linking diagnostics to care and treatment to minimise the risk of inappropriate treatments and drug resistance The report calls for policymakers, research funders, regulatory authorities, and the World Health Organization (WHO) to invest in these enablers to provide a robust foundation for global health systems to tackle endemic and pandemic diseases in the future 🌍💪 Read more and download the report here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eEeuBMeB

The longer I work in global health the more convinced I am that Diagnostics should be seen as a no regrets investment that benefits: 🧪 Pandemic Preparedness 💊 Tackling AMR 🏥 Strengthening primary care and surveillance And there's lots that governments and others can do to invest and embed them in existing systems. Read our and FINDs recommendations below 👇

📚 Resources to #ENDTB | One of the challenges in ending #TB is that the disease can remain dormant for years. This lengthy and unpredictable incubation period makes detection using conventional measures difficult. KIT and EPCON have co-developed a MATCH AI approach (Mapping and Analysis for Tailored disease Control and Health system strengthening) for national TB programmes to use resources to treat populations with ongoing TB transmission more effectively. At #ECTMIH2023 in Utrecht, our colleagues Christina Mergenthaler, Ente Rood, Jake Mathewson, and Mirjam Bakker shared a study comparing the predictive accuracy of a Bayesian and frequentist approach to modelling TB positivity rates found in active case-finding settings in Pakistan – a country with one of the highest burdens of #TB in the world. The Bayesian model, or the ‘MATCH AI’ model, performed well. The presentation was in collaboration with colleagues from EPCON, Mercy Corps, and Pakistan's National TB Control Program 🇵🇰. 🔍 “The results of this study highlight the potential value of using ACF data to target which harder-to-reach communities/locations may most benefit from TB case finding in Pakistan,” explains Christina. ➡ For more on the project, see: https://lnkd.in/daQV5J8 ➡ Download the presentation here: https://lnkd.in/ejUbUjvp Kenniscentrum Global Health (KCGH), Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenges (UGlobe), NVTG Dutch Society for Tropical Medicine & Global Health, #YesWeCanEndTB
