This impacts the risk profile of the sector, both from a regulatory risk perspective (in the context of JVs, lease renewals, etc.) and from an underwriting or acquisition/disposition perspective due to the elevated cost of debt combined with rising operating costs. Need SNF #Admission Assistance or Interim Admissions Manager? Good morning! ☀ I'm getting a lot of questions about assistance with Admissions in the Skilled Nursing Facilities. If you are going through a change of ownership and your Admissions person is struggling and doesn't know where to turn - we have an entire team that can assist with that. It can be extremely difficult to get authorizations when you dont know which tax id number to use. We know exactly which to use. It can be very time consuming to sit on a call to get an authorization, we have the time to sit on those calls because our team only does this exact task. If your Admissions person up and quits on you - we can act as the interim Admissions person until you find a new one - without missing a beat. Admissions has a critical role of filling your beds at the facilities & getting maximum payment! They are also extremely important not to miss those add on features you can bill in addition to your daily rate (if your contract is setup that way). Coalition director, Isaac Longobardi, joined Nathan Jones and other panelist at LTC 100 last week! There, Isaac shared insights about our very promising action plan, "Addressing Residents' Goals, Preferences & Priorities (or GPPs)". In case GPPs are new to you - GPPs are important tool in measuring care of nursing home residents as they reflect how residents want to live and be cared for. After all, we believe residents should be empowered to direct their care. Many nursing homes are working to improve the way they gather resident's GPPs, develop unique care plans, and implement those plans. However, in some nursing homes how GPPs are collected varies, as does the consistency of collection and implementation. Furthermore, public reporting does not provide whether care is consistent with residents' goals. However, what we know... is when GPPs are data-supported (and there's a tech-enabled process for collecting them), it is possible to incorporate and measure quality care that reflects residents' needs and wishes. LTC BY THE NUMBERS While nursing home industry lobbyists continue to claim that the industry suffers with “razor-thin” margins and doesn’t receive enough money to hire more staff or provide better services, the actual financial results of nursing home companies tell a very different story. The nation’s largest nursing home operator, The Ensign Group, announced “another record quarter.” The company continues its buying spree, bringing its portfolio to 315 healthcare operations. Ensign’s all-time high stock closing price was $146.01 on July 29, 2024. (See LTCCC’s previous briefing for more on The Ensign Group.) LTC Properties, Inc., a real estate investment trust that primarily invests in seniors housing and health care properties, reported positive financial performance for the second quarter of 2024. Part of my nursing home medical record review for fall cases, the MDS in one of the key assessments to look at. Did the facility actually code the fall event and if so, did they code the injury correctly. There are many times a fall is not even coded on the MDS and that is a great concern that is shared with my attorney client. Not only does it cause inaccurate information to the nursing home compare website but potential reimbursement to the facility but leads to inaccurate CAA triggers and plan of care decisions. Bottom line is evidence of system errors within the facility.
