Admitted Lawyer, Sexual Violence and DFV Prevention Advocate, Chair of NWSA Sexual Violence Working Group
Thanks for this document, it's very helpful. However, where are the legislative reforms to amend tendency and coincidence evidence in Queensland that will assist in exposing patterned violence and predatory behaviour in sexual violence cases? These reforms were first recommended in 2017 by the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Sexual Abuse and extended to adults by the Women's Safety and Justice Taskforce in 2022. If these reforms are not likely in the next two years then, that will be 9 years since they were first proposed (and accepted) by Government. Also, where is the legislative reform that would support the use of sexual violence experts in criminal trials? This reform would also make an enormous difference to court outcomes for victim survivors of sexual violence in Queensland. We note the accused's right to obtain an expert report (in certain circumstances) for use in the Mistake of Fact excuse has been prioritised and is part of the current bill before parliament.
The Women’s Safety and Justice Priorities sets out the key reforms rolling out over the next two years to address domestic, family and sexual violence in Queensland. The Queensland Government’s commitment to a long-term, collaborative reform agenda to improve the lives of women and girls in Queensland is driven by three independent reports, including the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce Hear Her Voice, Reports 1 and 2, and QPS A Call for Change. The priorities document provides a holistic understanding of the intersecting reform programs and identifies opportunities to create efficiencies in the delivery of recommendations. We often unintentionally divide our city. Excerpt from a recent appearance on the People’s Voice DC with Michael Campbell and Chris Otten: We need to be very careful about how we discuss individual Wards in DC. We frequently use divisive language, framing issues as ward against ward instead of uniting all wards as one city. What benefits one ward benefits the next. It’s crucial to ensure that all wards receive equal treatment. Every resident, every neighborhood, every ward, and DC as a whole needs adequate medical treatment, affordable housing, grocery stores, and sensible transit. If one community has something another lacks, we should focus on addressing the disparities rather than highlighting the divisions. #onecity #oneward #onedc #weareallwashingtonians #dc #whykevin #rappthevote #kevinforcouncil #dccouncilatlarge #dccouncil #atlarge #dccouncilmember #washingtondc #councilmember #election #washingtonian #kevinrapp #rapp #democrat #candidate #2024election #police #ward1 #ward2 #ward3 #ward4 #ward5 #ward6 #ward7 #ward8

In total, there have been 22 attempts by the DOJ to kill the case and silence youth voices. No other case in HISTORY has faced this kind of government persecution. The DOJ knows the youth will win. On January 22, join SPUR and Partnership for the Bay's Future for a panel discussion that aims to shed light on how a race-conscious approach to policymaking can potentially solve the current housing crisis, by addressing the root causes of racial disparities in housing access, affordability, and quality. The discussion will also focus on tangible solutions and strategies to advocate for meaningful and equitable change. https://lnkd.in/gm9RHZG6
