This #SupporterSunday, we're celebrating Eric Douglin! He's the star of our Christmas appeal – and for good reason. Christmas 2021, Eric found himself in the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. His bowel had ruptured due to diverticulitis, a challenging bowel condition. Matters got serious when this led to sepsis, a life-threatening illness. Before Eric knew it, he was having emergency bowel surgery and waking up with a stoma - a change he didn't get a chance to ready himself for. Eric's worked tirelessly for Bowel Research UK. He's joined our #auguts campaigns, spread awareness for chronic bowel disease whilst raising funds with the World Club Basketball Tournament, and written blogs for our website, sharing his personal experiences and knowledge on diverticulitis and stomas. Did you know that people can live perfectly healthy lives with just one kidney? Living kidney donation is when a healthy person (donor) chooses to give one of their kidneys to someone who needs it (the recipient). If you are over the age of 18 and in good health you can be considered as a living kidney donor. There are several tests you will need to go through to make sure you are healthy enough to donate and that your kidney is a suitable match for the intended recipient. You will not be able to donate if you have had cancer, or if you have diabetes, heart disease or a condition affecting your kidneys. You have the right to change your mind about donating at any time, right up until the operation itself. I am being honored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at a special event recognizing outstanding professionals in my community. In accepting this distinction, I have committed to raise money to help the Foundation realize its mission of curing cystic fibrosis (CF) and providing all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives. My personal goal is to raise over $10,000 to help CF stand for Cure Found. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. As you all start planning your goals/resolutions/intentions for 2024, I want to encourage you to remember how important is to donate blood through Australian Red Cross Lifeblood 🔻 Did you know that one in three Australians will need blood, but only one in 30 people donate it?  🔺 Did you know that you can still donate plasma even if you are not eligible for whole blood donation? (This applies to my Colombian colleagues in Australia!) 🔻 Are you aware that your blood donations can help people with cancer and blood diseases, trauma patients, pregnant women and new mothers live full and healthy lives?  🔺 Every blood donation saves three lives, did you know? I would not have survived my cancer treatment without the several blood transfusions I had (I lost count!) and even though I am no longer eligible to donate blood, I want to help in other ways (i.e. by creating awareness).
