Komatsu is a global leader in #electricdrive #miningtrucks from the 186 t 730E-10 up to the 363 t class 980E-5SE & is the pioneer in mining truck #automation with its #Frontrunner #AutonomousHaulage System (#AHS). Sites in Australia played a key role in its testing & validation & the country now boasts the largest combined Frontrunner AHS fleet in the world, with >420 trucks currently operating autonomously. Komatsu Mining is pushing boundaries with #zeroemissions mining trucks through development of its #poweragnostic truck platform. This allows trucks to run on various power sources such as diesel, batteries & potentially #hydrogen #fuelcells with both static & dynamic #charging capabilities from one platform. Komatsu’s #GHGAlliance members recently saw one of these, an EVX (battery) truck, at its Arizona Proving Grounds, running a circuit on battery, static charging of the battery with the truck hooked up to the trolley line via pantograph & a run up the trolley line highlighting the battery being charged & increased speed in the dynamic environment. Komatsu has fully electric rope shovels with a payload range of 20 t to 135 t per pass. All are available with a mining duty #ACdrive lineup & AC motors. Globally, there are >580 operating. Komatsu has also delivered >250 electric hydraulic shovels from 300 t up to 800 t, which have accumulated >11 million operating hours. Komatsu has recently launched the 3rd gen WE1850 ultra class electric drive wheel loader, which utilises its Kinetic Energy Storage System & SR Electric Drive. Komatsu is also a major supplier of underground equipment, including its 4 t & 7 t loader models for smaller & narrow vein mines. It was also a pioneer in large hybrid loaders for mining. It took an important step in 2022 when it agreed to acquire GHH Fahrzeuge GmbH, a globally recognised innovator in underground loaders & trucks which has also moved into the electric market with battery & cable options. In Australia, members of Komatsu’s GHG Alliance include BHP & Rio Tinto, both with extensive iron ore mining ops in WA’s #Pilbara – both are working closely with Komatsu on its zero emissions mining truck program. Looking at support, services & training, in 2022 Komatsu opened a new Innovation Hub, showcasing its focus on innovation & tech leadership – as part of its new Wacol Distribution Centre in Queensland. In WA in Welshpool, it recently opened a new A$6 million training academy as part of plans to address skills shortages in the state coinciding with Komatsu doubling its annual investment in training in Australia to A$12 million.
