Reflecting on an inspiring journey at the “Nothing About Us Without Us” event, I’m filled with gratitude. 🌟 🎗️ Celebrating Inclusion: Attending the “World Autism Awareness Day 2024” event was a profound reminder that every voice matters in the quest for a more inclusive Indonesia. Organized by the Trans Luxury Hotel, Artherapy Center Widyatama, Cico, and Biruku Indonesia, this gathering was a beacon of hope and understanding. 🤝 United for Change: Invited by the esteemed bu Juju Sukmana, I was moved by the collective resolve to shift perceptions about autism. It’s time we embrace the narrative of normalization, recognizing that autistic individuals are not a ‘test’ or ‘children of God’ but equal members of our society deserving of respect and accommodation. 🌐 Bandung’s Beacon: Discovering a community in Bandung that shares such profound insights was truly heartening. Their advocacy for autism is a testament to the power of unity and the importance of creating a world where everyone can thrive. 🤗 Together, We Advocate: As we work hand in hand towards autism advocacy, let’s continue to foster acceptance and accommodations for all neurodiverse individuals. Our collective efforts can make a world of difference. 🌈 Inclusion Matters: Let’s celebrate the diversity of minds and the richness it brings to our lives. Here’s to building a better, more inclusive place for us all. #AutismAcceptance #AutismAwarenessDay #AutismBandung #Neurodiversity #InclusionMatters #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #BetterIndonesia

ASB Indonesia and the Philippines have developed principles to ensure inclusion, called the 5 Inclusion Musts. One of these musts is accessibility, and a key aspect of accessibility is physical accessibility. Physical accessibility have to remove all physical barriers. The World Health Organization (WHO) describes physical barriers as “Factors in a person's environment that, through their absence or presence, limit functioning and create disability.” These factors can include an environment that is not physically accessible, such as steps into a building or an inaccessible transport system. Learn more about organising events in accessible buildings in this document below. #Inclusion #Accessibility #ASB #AccessibleEvents

The Australian Embassy in Jakarta, KONEKSI, INKLUSI, and the Indonesian government undertook a joint site visit to key projects in West Nusa Tenggara in the past week. 🌟 The two KONEKSI projects on the visit are focused on achieving inclusive, strengths-based and innovative climate resilience, co-created by affected communities. The first KONEKSI project on the visit, CORE-STEP, intends to strengthen community healthcare delivery at Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat (PUSKESMAS) by providing climate-just services to mitigate the damaging effects of climate change. The initiative collaborates with community healthcare providers to develop gender-informed climate services, focused treatments that address the needs of communities, and training for people with disabilities and other marginalised communities. The project is developing a dashboard to promote sustainable and inclusive community health care. 🩺 Also focusing on climate resilience, the Model of Future-proofing for Climate Resilience through Community Engagement project (MoFCREC) is mapping and assessing community activities and attitudes to create better climate resilience policies. Its findings will support new and long-term strategies for policy and resilience design centred around lived experiences of women, the elderly, people with disabilities, and other marginalised groups. 👨🦽 KONEKSI research is supporting knowledge-based policy and innovation for sustainable development. 🏠 #WhenCareWorkIsShared: Story of Lestari and Ugochukwu 🏠 Let's take a moment to celebrate the partnership of Lestari and Ugochukwu, a dynamic duo navigating the joys and challenges of raising their son, Junior, in Jakarta. Ugo, Lestari's Nigerian husband, shares his perspective on the importance of shared care work at home. Ugo takes pride in his role in domestic care work, particularly enjoying ironing clothes, but he emphasizes that his contributions extend beyond this. He believes that everyone in a household should be active participants in domestic chores, emphasizing that marriage is a partnership, not a master-servant relationship. According to Ugo, balance in care work at home is crucial for a happy and harmonious household. He highlights the importance of proper time management and understanding each other's strengths and preferences. By working together and supporting each other, tasks become less stressful, and the home becomes a happier place. International Trade & Sustainable Development| Inclusive Growth | Macroeconomics & Applied Economic Research| PhD Agricultural, Resource & Environmental Economics
📣I launched our Equity Economics & Development Partners Pty Ltd research report ‘Inclusion is the Future: Opportunities for bilateral trade and investment in medical devices and assistive technology’ at the IA-CEPA ECP Katalis Trade and Investment Public Dialogue yesterday 🇮🇩🇦🇺 Key takeaways include: 🔸#accessibility and #affordability remain major barriers to accessing assistive technology (AT) in Indonesia, with significant unmet needs, particularly for #women and #rural populations. Indonesia’s AT prices are far higher than comparable countries in ASEAN (and Australia), making them unaffordable for all but the richest 20% of households. As a result, 60% of the 23.3 million Indonesians with a moderate or severe #disability (and need for AT) are not using any AT. 🔹Indonesia has a #shortage of every type of AT, especially glasses, mobility aids and prosthetics. 🔸Publicly provided AT tends to be one-size-fits-all and not customised to meet individual needs and is therefore not fit-for-purpose. 🔹Only 7 types of AT are currently covered under JKN (the national health insurance scheme; the World Health Organization recommends 50 types of priority AT for subsidisation. 🔸Most essential AT is #imported, and high cost. Regulatory barriers - 40% local content requirements - apply to government procurement of some AT. 🔹The impact of these behind-the-border barriers to #trade is reflected in the low value of Indonesia’s imports of AT – US$143.3 million in 2022 – well below what would be expected to service the needs of the fourth most populous country in the world, and markedly lower than neighbouring ASEAN countries. 🔸There is unrealised potential for #imports to supplement domestic production to meet the needs of people living with disability. 🔹Enhanced #trade supports increased access to AT, providing greater #consumerchoice and lower prices. 🔸Australian exports of AT to Indonesia are underdone, with significant unrealised potential to grow. In the near term, #digitaltrade in AT offers the best opportunities for enhanced bilateral trade. 🔗Download the executive summary: https://lnkd.in/gvvBZd6r #australia #indonesia #trade #inclusionmatters #assistivetechnology #digitaltrade Equity Economics & Development Partners Pty Ltd

A key to economic growth is maximizing women's labor force participation -- there is substantial evidence to show direct links between GDP and % of women in an economy's labor force. The Asia Foundation Malaysia was honored to host six Australian MPs this week in Kuala Lumpur, to discuss challenges and opportunities for women in the workforce in both Malaysia and Australia. Access to affordable and quality childcare and flexible work opportunities are key needs in both countries, and Malaysian colleagues from Kiddocare Malaysia and the Malaysian Productivity Corporation shared their experience in advocating for stronger regulation and government subsidies for childcare to boost Malaysia's growth. #womenintheworkforce #accesstocare #careeconomy
