This summer, many will face “summer hunger” without federally-assisted meals at school, impacting their health, well-being and academic performance. Integrating culturally relevant foods into their diets, Black children can thrive and maintain their health and well-being, supporting not only physical health but fostering a strong sense of identity and community. If the intent is to improve the service, did the writer consider that the questions may be framed in such a way that they defeat the object. Q1. Assumes that everyone one who experiences "service" will feel the same way. This ignores the fact we have independent minds. Q2. Suggests that the police don't recruit "black" people Q3. As the previous question related to black people, Implies that they are taken them less seriously than any other victim. Q4. If you have had a bad experience, with a question framed like this is, are you likely to assume that "all police" are unfair, disrespectful and inequitable. It suggest that the community experience is the same for all who have been in contact with the police. In the UK? If the intention of the Race Action Plan is to improve the service to communities then we the community, along with policing leaders should be asking is the intention here to progress or regress?

As we honour Black History Month, we encourage our community to take the time to better understand the unique barriers to eating disorder treatment faced by Black individuals. Many external and societal factors can impact an individual's health, including the development and perpetuation of eating disorders and disordered eating behaviours. To have true inclusivity and equity in eating disorder awareness, research and recovery methods, we must acknowledge and understand the systemic racial bias in our social and healthcare systems that impacts Black individuals, creating barriers to accessing equitable treatment. It is our responsibility as practitioners, organizations and advocates alike to ensure we are all doing our due diligence to provide accessible, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care to Black individuals who need our support. This Black History Month we're honoring the incredible contributions of Black scientists and physicians to the health care field. Like Dr. Patricia Bath, founding member of the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness, or Dr. Charles Drew, who first identified that blood plasma could be transfused and donated. These incredible discoveries were made in the context of the astronomical health inequities and social and economic barriers Black families have historically faced and in many ways still face today. These health inequities contribute to Black Americans having higher maternal and infant mortality rates and lower life expectancy overall. Black communities also experience racism and discrimination while seeking health care, and that health care is often made inaccessible by other barriers like cost and transportation. We can and must do more to address these historic and ongoing health inequities. Plan A Health created our mobile health clinic serve communities in the Mississippi Delta experiencing these barriers and support wider health care access. Our mobile clinics offer services in community spaces such as community centers, churches, barbershops, and stores. We provide free healthcare services at all locations, no insurance required. We just launched a monthly dental clinic at our brick and mortar location in Louise, MS. And we're just getting started. https://planahealth.org/

When educators speak, we should listen! Thank you to the Black Educators Advocates Network for their recent report. It highlights key steps/activities schools and leaders can do to create more equitable, affirming and professionally satisfying working conditions for Black educators. Among the findings, it's telling that 45% of Black educators reported that their school values the expertise of educators of color and supports their professional development. Educators also reported that mentoring (60%), pathways to leadership (53%) and more time to collaborate (51%) would be most impactful to their professional growth and development. These data are consistent with other national surveys of Black educators. As leaders and policy makers evaluate their retention strategies, it's critical they listen to the voices of educators to ensure their solutions align, otherwise they're likely fail.

It's a hands-on way to introduce kids to different cultures and cuisines. 👩🏾🍳 * Visit Museums or Exhibits: If possible, take your kids to museums or exhibits that showcase Black history. Many places have special events during Black History Month. 🏢 * Community Involvement: Attend local events or community activities celebrating Black History Month. It's an opportunity to connect with others and reinforce the importance of diversity. ❤️🖤💚

Juneteenth is a time for reflection at OFRF. As an organization, the staff and board of OFRF have been focusing on both the internal and external work needed for us to move toward becoming an anti-racist organization. Over the past few years we have made some changes that reflect this initiative, including: reserving half of our research grant funding for BIPOC applicants, taking steps to diversify our staff and board, and building relationships with BIPOC-led organizations, but we know that is not enough.
