This Juneteenth, we want to uplift and celebrate Black voices and the incredible work done by Black-led community gardens, such as the 2023 Gardens for Good grant winners and changemakers, Holistic Divine Innovations from Ridgecrest, CA. As an education-based non-profit, Holistic Divine Innovations aims to educate individuals worldwide on how to live and maintain healthy, self-sustaining lives through holistic practices. Their mission is to promote innovative, holistic ways of living by teaching self-sustainability through gardening and agriculture, herbalism, and maintaining one’s connection to nature. They created the Ridgecrest Community Garden to encourage positive community engagement, restore hope, and improve the health and well-being of the community by providing fresh organic produce, education, and a space for healing and positive social engagement. Their garden was built from the ground up as an organizational, volunteer, and community effort to bring organic food resources and unity amongst people. They are a great example of community-based projects that provide a sense of comfort and food security to the city of Ridgecrest.
