[#125YearsOfSubs] ⚓ We continue our series with the Naiade-class. A total of 20 submarines were designed by engineer Gaston Romazzotti and produced between 1904 and 1907. These submarine torpedo boats were affectionately nicknamed “Les Fritures” (small fried fish), because most of them had names of fish and were much more smaller (70 tons) than the Sirene (150t) and Pluviose (400t) class. They were specially designed for guarding roadsteads and ports and served until 1914 in Dunkirk (North), La Pallice (Charente-Maritime), Toulon (Var), Bizerte (Tunisia) and Saigon (Vietnam). They were withdrawn from active service before the First World War to make way for submarines with the latest innovations.
