The United States Navy Sea, Air, and Land (SEAL) Teams, commonly known as Navy SEALs, are the U.S. Navy's primary special operations force and a component of the Naval Special Warfare Command. Among the SEALs' main functions are conducting small-unit special operation missions in maritime, jungle, urban, arctic, mountainous, and desert environments. SEALs are typically ordered to capture or kill high-level targets, or to gather intelligence behind enemy lines.SEAL team personnel are hand-selected, highly trained, and possess a high degree of proficiency in direct action (DA), and special reconnaissance (SR), among other tasks like sabotage, demolition, intelligence gathering, and hydro-graphic reconnaissance, training, and advising friendly militaries or other forces. Depending on the availability of platforms, threat level, and environment, different methods can be used for the insertion and extraction of SEALs into a target location. This could include nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines equipped with dry deck shelters, SDV submarines, surface vessels, surface swimming, or other vehicles. All active SEALs are members of the U.S. Navy. The CIA's highly secretive and elite Special Operations Group (SOG) recruits operators from SEAL Teams, with joint operations going back to the MACV-SOG during the Vietnam War. This cooperation still exists today, as evidenced by military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Marine Corps allies are taking notice and emulating the innovative littoral regiment strategies developed by the United States Marine Corps. Lt. Gen. James Bierman revealed at the Navy League's Sea-Air-Space conference that the U.S. Marines are witnessing their Pacific allies adopting their groundbreaking littoral regiment tactics, specifically designed to counter China's presence in the region. The three major challenges identified by Lt. Gen. Bierman are time, space, and access. However, the U.S. Marines are actively working to maintain and amplify China's doubt and uncertainty. To address these challenges, the Corps has been focusing on enhancing its units within the U.S. Navy fleet and the first island chain, including locations like Okinawa, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Notably, partner and allied nations within this chain are joining forces with the Marines to improve their capabilities in detecting, targeting, and striking enemy naval vessels. The key to these joint operations lies in the Marine littoral regiment, which has been developed specifically for littoral combat in shallow waters near coastlines and archipelagos. Excitingly, Marine Corps allies in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines are either adopting elements of the littoral combat concept or actively working towards it. Each nation is tailoring their approach based on their specific needs and priorities. The Marines' Pacific allies are fully committed to these efforts, recognizing the importance of standing strong and united in their own backyards. Their collective focus on external security and shared aims will undoubtedly strengthen the region's defense against any potential threats. #SAS2024 #MilitaryNews #PacificRegion #MarineCorpsTimes #LittoralRegimentMoves #MilitaryInnovation

I do think it is a frigate because of its size and the scope of its general capabilities. If ships designations were to be governed by political acceptance or wishfulness most ships would be patrol boats or APV:s. The Sw RN is better served by a correct ship type designation than by a politically correct one. Our Navy needs the self esteem that this new ship may bring about after its experience of diminutives in ship sizes as well as numbers.
Is it a #frigate or a #corvette? The Swedish Armed Forces won't say, but the Next Generation Surface Ship (NGSS) Luleå-class vessel programme will expand Swedish Navy strategic horizons as it conducts more operations as a NATO member in the #Baltic approaches, Atlantic and Mediterranean as well as in the Baltic Sea. With these ships the Swedish Navy is at the beginning of a transition from a sea denial force into a sea control force. https://lnkd.in/gE8CKM2a Shephard Media Saab Kockums Thanks to Lars Wedin from the Swedish Institute for Security and Defence.

Lt. Gen. James Bierman, Deputy Commandant for plans, policies and operations, US Marine Corps, laid out challenges the United States Department of Defense faces in the Western #Pacific and moves the United States Marine Corps are making to address those gaps. The three key challenges are “time, space and access,” Bierman said. To meet those challenges, Bierman said, the Corps has focused efforts on its units both already within the U.S. Navy fleet and those inside of the first island chain and “weapons engagement zone.” “Our allies and partners are all in,” Bierman said. “They are feeling the heat, they’re tired of getting pushed around in their own backyards.” Partner and allied nations in that same chain are training alongside Marines in new ways, focused on detecting, targeting and striking enemy naval vessels. “They’re very much seeing the problem the same way,” Bierman said. “Which is how in distributed naval terrain do you sense and make sense; do you synchronize and coordinate in combined operations. How do you establish the right linkages for command and control?” As the Australian Army evolves smaller, agile littoral manoeuvre capabilities and the USMC, US Navy, US Army and other partners and allies increase training and exercising in the region, northern Australia's geostrategic importance will become further pronounced. #defence #defense U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Armatus.ai Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA) Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Indonesia Defense News Japan - The Government of Japan Northern Territory Government https://lnkd.in/gMzvyzFj
