The HIPAA changes regarding reproductive health information (RHI) are in effect, and the enforcement date is December 23, 2024, which will be here before you know it. Waiting until law enforcement shows up at your door during the holiday season is not the best approach to figuring out how you're going to get attestations signed! Here are some things to start thinking about now: 1. 🔎 Do you know where RHI could be lurking in your records? Unless we get guidance indicating otherwise, all HIPAA covered entities, including nursing homes, ophthalmologists, allergists, dental practices, health plans, etc. are going to have to figure out how the rules will affect operations. 2. 📝 Update policies and procedures. Studies have consistently shown that racial and ethnic minorities, particularly Black and Hispanic individuals, experience higher rates of asthma prevalence, hospitalisations, and mortality. Black Americans are nearly 1.5 times more likely to have asthma. Black Americans are 5 times more likely to visit the emergency department due to asthma. Black Americans are 3 times more likely to die from asthma-AAFA. These populations often face barriers to accessing asthma care, including limited access to healthcare facilities, inadequate insurance coverage, and language barriers. There is a need to improve access to care, patient education, advocacy and data collection. #healthcare #health

A study from MJA provided data on Did Not Waits; DNW rates average 15.2%. DNW patients had conditions of lower urgency, predominantly ATS cat 4 (67.1%) and 5 (23.4%).DNW patients were more frequently male (4.4% v 3.8%, and young to middle-aged adults (15–44 years; 5.8%).
