𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐏𝐓𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐃 From an environmental graphic design (EGD) perspective, a signage system can be considered the combination of six distinct but interrelated subsystems: architectures, branding, information, graphics, fabrication and standard & compliance. The information system dictates where signs will be installed, what they will say and how that content will flow from one sign to another in a cohesive stream. The graphics system, on the other hand, puts forth how that information will be displayed on the signs in terms of typography, colours, layout, arrows, symbols, etc. And the hardware system, of course, comprises all of the physical structures that will hold the graphics. 𝟏. Designing Healthcare Spaces for Everyone Our Design Healthcare Interiors practice has found that there are five things that everyone needs from design:   1. to feel safe, 2. to feel included, 3. to have the ability to focus, 4. to be physically cognitively comfortable 5. to have a sense of control over their situation With an understanding of these needs, we’ve developed a set of healthcare design drivers to guide our practice. First, let’s look at the seating arrangements in waiting areas. Typically, singular chairs would be used to separate patients and give individuals a sense of personalized space. But it might be better to use an alternative, such as double-wide chairs or a love seat, rather than specific bariatric seating, to accommodate people of size.
