🇺🇸 Honoring Our Heroes This Memorial Day 🐾 As we gather to commemorate Memorial Day, let's take a moment to honor not only the brave men and women who have served our country but also the courageous service dogs who have stood alongside them. As you celebrate this important day, remember that large gatherings and celebrations can be overwhelming for our dogs. Here are a few tips to ensure they stay comfortable and safe during Memorial Day festivities: PROVIDE A QUIET SPACE: If you’re hosting or attending a busy event, make sure there’s a quiet, safe spot for your dog to retreat to if the festivities get too overwhelming. MONITOR FOOD AND TREATS: With barbecues and outdoor meals, be vigilant about what your dog might snatch up. Keep unhealthy or unsafe foods out of reach. KEEP THEM SECURE: If your celebration includes a lot of coming and going, make sure your dog can't slip out through an open door. Check that your yard is secure if they'll be spending time outside. FIREWORKS - if you are attending a fireworks celebration leave your dogs safelyat home. Let’s ensure this Memorial Day is enjoyable for everyone in the family, including our four-legged friends. If you're wondering how to truly celebrate Memorial Day tomorrow, here are a few meaningful ways: 🇺🇸Visit a Memorial or Cemetery: Pay your respects by visiting a local memorial or cemetery. Placing flowers or flags on the graves of fallen soldiers is a powerful gesture of remembrance. 🇺🇸Attend a Memorial Day Ceremony: Many communities hold ceremonies or parades to honor the fallen. Too many advocacy organizations (driven by funders who exemplify the same problem) prioritize doing what feels good and/or what they know how to do over actually accomplishing their goals. No *one* tactic wins every campaign or policy fight and *no* tactic is a substitute for organizing and leadership development, which requires building robust institutions and programs and actually talking to individual people, in person, repeatedly. But those things do not, in the short term, get an organization's name in the press and do not allow funders to claim a quantifiable return on their investment. The things that *do* accomplish both of those things--staged rallies and demonstrations--do not build power. The upshot of all this is millions of dollars every year paid by philanthropy to make the philanthropists and the orgs they fund feel good while the communities they claim to represent have no more political power than they had the year before. Thinking long and hard about how to get out of this trap and actually move things forward as civic and social institutions fail all around us...

IMA DFW Members, After a long pause from our Angel Tree community service project with North Texas Salvation Army due to COVID, we are bringing this tradition back to our members to get us excited about the holiday season while contributing something meaningful for our community and of course, have some fun with fellow members. For 2023, we will participate in the Angel Tree Dallas Warehouse Sorting! Below are the details of this event and the sign-up steps: Time: December 9, 2023, 8:30 am – 12:00 pm Location: Salvation Army Dallas Warehouse, 9216 Harry Hines Blvd. Dallas, TX 75235 Volunteers required: 6 slots are required to be filled. More slots can be added.
