We are proud to highlight a project that is changing how our client, Centra Health, is changing their hospital system's approach to behavioral health treatment: Virginia's first-ever emPATH Unit at Lynchburg General Hospital! emPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing) units are a relatively new concept that provides compassionate, holistic care in a calming environment for people experiencing a mental health crisis. Our healthcare system design is broken. Because we design against our fears. That makes the things we hide from and don't talk about become what kills us the most. When we are anxious we design for anxious. Designing for our fears is the shortest path to scarcity, Our shortest path to burnout for everyone. Sound familiar? A spiral down. We can and should design for maximizing who we are. Who we are and can be. Our best possible story. Both now and later.
