NEDC Architectural Design Build beauty in Cambridge, MA A lovely project for amazing clients in Cambridge. This family has a private roof deck off their primary suite and wanted to create a spa-like shower in their outdoor space so they can shower there year round. The project scope overall included the primary suite with a focus on a fully unique bathroom and roof deck. (This included an herb garden on the exterior deck for an additional touch of sustainability). Unique design points: It's a completely open-air outdoor shower on the roof, they use it throughout the year. NEDC designed and installed a custom slat wall on both the roof deck space as well as inside where the sink and toilet are situated to lend a minimalist aesthetic as well as privacy. The black wood is Shou Sugi Ban - an elegant and unique Japanese woodburning technique. Six different beautiful woods are woven here into a rich medley with a sustainable touch throughout the interior and exterior of the home: The doors: reclaimed Oak handcrafted by NEDC Vertical slats are 1x6 Maple with a clear finish. The existing Oak floors were painstakingly refinished The decking is Ipè with cedar railings The dark burnt wood on the outside shower wall, along with the planter and inside vanity wall are covered with the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban. Brief 📄⤵️ “Make the most of the space I have.” That was the client’s main instruction to us.Her ultimate desire was to transform her 350 sq foot studio apartment into a contemporary and considered space that she could enjoy for years to come. The key objectives were to: - Reconfigure the interior architecture and layouts to create an improved flow - Maximise every available square foot to provide storage and accommodate furniture - Propose a multi-functional design for the main living space that would be ideal for both working and unwinding Here are some of the key design decisions we made to achieve this: - Due to the awkward and challenging nature of the space, opted for a fully bespoke kitchen with tall, reduced-depth cupboards in an off-white finish to make it feel lighter - Opted for a sliding glass door with a fixed panel between the central bedroom and the living room to provide privacy without needing to close the open plan living blinds - Designed a compact, foldable dining table that could be aesthetically pleasing when not in use. The artwork frame drops down and becomes the table legs for when the client has a guest over for dinner - Installed a panoramic horizontal mirror behind the sofa to bounce light around the room and gives a sense of depth and a place to add styling items, breaking up the joinery Here’s what our client had to say: “Really enjoyed working with Muchmore Design! Would hire them again and would recommend them to anybody who is redesigning their apartment.” What do you think of the finished apartment? How Did an Architect Transform a Small Paris Apartment into a Chic, Functional Space? Transforming a Small Paris Apartment into a Chic, Functional Living Space This post explores how a tiny 42-square meter apartment in Paris has been transformed into a stylish, functional living space. Architect Antonin Ziegler took on the task of giving this confined space a major revamp, cleverly making it feel anything but cramped. Maximizing Space with Creative Design Ziegler first deemed it necessary to strip back much of the original interior to start afresh. He removed the classic wooden floorboards and installed a sturdy concrete floor instead. He also created a 'cabin-in-a-box' design with a multipurpose wall unit, perfect for a small space. Following are the major changes applied in the design: - A glass-windowed bathroom installed to maximize the natural light pouring in. - A kitchen area that can be cleverly hidden behind a slatted wood screen when not in use. - A bed that can be pulled out when needed and stored away when not in use. - Maximizing ceiling height to create a light, airy atmosphere. Creating a Modern, Chic Aesthetic Ziegler has perfectly combined practical elements with chic, modern design. He's expertly managed to incorporate sleek staircases and custom-made furniture into the space, without it ever feeling cluttered or overwhelming. So, whether you're stuck with a minimal square footage or just looking for some clever design ideas, this Parisian apartment proves that small spaces can be just a fabulously stylish and functional as their larger counterparts. #TinyLiving #ParisianDesign #Architecture #AntoninZiegler #MinimalistDesign #SmallSpaces #InteriorDesign #HomeInspo #ChicInteriors #FunctionalLiving #SpaceSaving #PropertyDesign #FrenchStyle Keep Hashtags # complete. The Transparency Trend: Why Glass Staircases Are Taking Over Glass staircases are becoming increasingly popular in modern home design. More architects and interior designers are opting for these see-through stairs made of glass panes framed in metal or wood. What's behind the growing trend? For starters, glass stairs make a striking visual statement. The transparent material allows natural light to flow through and gives an airy, open feel to any space. Going with glass treads rather than opaque materials provides a contemporary minimalist look. The stairs appear lightweight and almost floating - especially when backlit! But glass stairs aren't just about aesthetics. They also have some practical advantages: Illumination - Glass steps allow light into basement levels and windowless spaces. This enhances safety and visibility. Space - Glass treads don't require as much underlying structural support as traditional wooden steps, so they maximise open space beneath. Durability - Modern glass stair treads are made of tempered safety glass. This makes them more durable and shatter-resistant than standard glass. So if you're looking to offer glass staircases to your customers - we have a range of products to help make their design dreams a reality. #glassstaircase #staircasedesign #staircases #moderndesign #architecturalglass

Can Food Architects Really Bring a Breath of Fresh Air to New York Apartment Design? Food Architects Pump Fresh Air Into New York Apartment Design In the concrete jungle of New York, where space comes at a premium, the designing duo behind the innovative Food Architects has triumphantly transformed a compact Manhattan apartment into a cozy, modern dream home. Designing a Minimalist Sanctuary The main challenge was to delightfully convert a sizeable 90 square meter area into a minimalist sanctuary. An overall decor of white and greys acts as a canvas, allowing art, objects, and plants as the home's character pieces. Elevating Small Spaces with Thoughtful Furnishing The philosophy of Food Architects revolves around injecting personality into homes while maintaining a clear vision of functionality. In this apartment, the bamboo flooring contrasts the monochromic decor subtly, fostering a sense of coziness and homeliness. Every corner serves a purpose and each piece of furniture contributes to a larger aesthetic vision. Reflecting this trend is a captivating new build situated in Breslau. This impressive work fuses the minimalist aesthetic with sophisticated color pallets and practical storage solutions. Illusions of Space At first glance, the Breslau house may appear petite, but its interior cleverly conveys a sense of spaciousness. Its generous windows let in an abundance of natural light, reflecting shades of yellow and green off its walls. This strategic interplay of light and color creates an illusion of a larger space. Color and Material Choice The Berlin-based firm chose a warm palette of cream, yellow, and green for the property's interior. This harmonious color scheme creates a feeling of serenity and elegance while allowing the furniture to stand out. The use of Brionvega and Gio Ponti furniture pieces lends to the sophistication. Smart Storage Solutions One of the highlights of this property is its clever use of storage space.
