Choosing My Own Flight 🛫 Today, my mentor, Monty Pandey shared an enlightening airport story that shifted my perspective. He described the crowded airport, with some people receiving special first-class treatment, while others cram into economy with little attention. His point was that we choose our own “flights” in life. We decide if we create space for ourselves or cram in and let others dictate our experience. This lesson applies broadly - in our jobs, relationships, and beyond, we control more than we realize. I used to feel like a powerless victim of circumstances, lacking agency in my own life. Monty helped me see that I can reclaim some control. I can surround myself with positive people. Say no if a situation doesn’t serve me. And if I don’t like my "seat," I can upgrade myself. Then he said something that crystallized the possibilities ahead: “First-class seats are available if you dare to claim yours.” This was an invitation to take responsibility for the environments I create and accept nothing less than I deserve. I may not control everything, but I can steer my “flight path” so much more than I believed. With Monty’s wisdom as my guide, I now feel empowered to take charge and elevate my life experience. The power was within me all along – I just needed a wise mentor to unlock it. I’m grateful to Monty for sharing this story and helping me see that I can choose my own direction. On this day, eight years ago, I began a new chapter in the United States. I made the bold decision to leave Scotland and board a flight to a City and State that I had never visited. Reflecting on this journey, I'm filled with appreciation. Relocating wasn't just a change of address—it was a leap into the unknown. I left behind familiar landscapes, a supportive family, dear friends, and all the comforts of home to embrace both new opportunities and challenges. The transition wasn't always easy. There were moments of doubt. I moved on my own and knew no one locally. Yet, each challenge was a stepping stone to growth. I learned to adapt, to find strength in uncertainty, and to build resilience in the face of adversity. In the US, I found a community that welcomed me with open arms. First in Texas (Dallas & Austin) and then in North Carolina (Raleigh). I discovered new perspectives, forged lasting friendships, and built a career that I'm passionate about. Every day has been an opportunity to learn and grow, both personally and professionally. This opportunity has taught me that stepping out of your comfort zone is where the magic happens. It’s where you find out what you’re truly capable of, where you discover new passions, and where you build a life rich with experiences and connections. To anyone considering a big move or a significant life change, I encourage you to embrace it wholeheartedly. It might be challenging, but it’s in those challenges that we find our strength and resilience. Trust in your journey, and remember that every step forward is a step towards growth. Does waiting still exist? Stranded at the Airport (again) First thoughts: "I'm losing so much time. Damn, what can I do now?" But wait, is waiting even a thing anymore? Like waiting with a random book in your hand and staring out of the window? Every time I want to get frustrated, I remind myself: I can do almost everything here that I would at home. Seriously, do we really wait in today's digital world with the internet in your pocket? Grateful to work in a profession where my output is purely digital. New setting = New ideas + New routines.
