Where is Havells company .? Havells supports the education of 700 schools in Rajasthan and provides midday meals to 50,000 schoolchildren every day. Meet the man who created an empire worth 70,000 crores with just 10,000 rupees. In 1958, Punjabi school teacher Qimat Rai Gupta established Guptaji & Company, an electrical trading shop in Delhi's wholesale market, with a budget of Rs 10,000. The idea was simple ⏩ Trade Fixtures and Electric Cables. Slow but steady, Qimat survived the decade trading cables, wires and switchgear for different brands. But his big break came in 1971. Qimat was distributing for a brand called "Havells", named after Haveli Ram Gandhi. Despite a good brand name, Haveli could not sell the product. Qimat realised the gap in the solution. So, he bought the brand name for just Rs 7 Lakh. In 1971, GuptaJi & Co became Havells. Qimat, aware of Havells' failure due to direct retail sales, opened the first switch factory in 1976. He later opened separate factories for HBC fuses and energy meters, awaiting Chinese market entry. In 1983, Oimat acquired the loss-making "Towers and Transformers" factory in India to boost production amid factory closures and improve quality. Qimat transformed Havells into a 25 CR company in 1992, opening four innovation hubs and trading on the stock exchange. Between 1997 and 2001, Havells acquired ECS, Duke Arnics Electronics, Standard Electricals, and Crabtree India. GE, Philips, Crompton Greaves and Osram decided to tame Havells. Qimat had to acquire a big player to tackle them. In 2007, Havells acquired the 4th largest player Sylvania for 2000 CR (a company 1.5x their size). It was the biggest acquisition deal ever. Havells expanded to 10,000 CR by 2019, launching domestic products like ACs and fridges, quadrupling marketing budget to 60 CR, and launching the famous "Shock Laga" ads. Havells, a 70,000 CR company with over 1200 CR in net profits, operates 16 factories, employs over 20,000 people, and holds a 14% market share in India. #business #hardwork #socialwork #supportcommunity #success #story
The Indian personalities like Qimat Rai Gupta ji are the real entrepreneur and as an Indian we tend to neglect their efforts, contribution to Nation and Society at large. Their Zeal to take HEAD on the MNC's and creating INDIAN ORIGINAL niche is mind blowing. Yet they are so simple and down to earth, humble. That is a quality that you will miss in Western Entrepreneurs, they normally tend to be Flashy. To name a few, similar brands would be Balaji, Haldiram, Parle Agro. Do you agree? Hats off and Kudos to these deeply rooted Indian towering personalities.
Company respect employees and fair then no one can stop to grow any company.
Nice case study to share
A journey worth reckoning...Business journey is often associated with the founder's life journey....Accomplishments are calculated based on how much the company gives back .....BRAVO!!!
Great... Honestly is the best policy.. He has always acquired his competitors and become strong..
Electrical shortcircuit is still prevailing. Some one has to take Hell out to Heaven one of them is Havells
Havelis is growing very good, but they must think about there product after sale service also, which is now getting worst. In turn pathetic. Sir please take care of this as well. Best of luck.
Gratitude and blessings to this noble man with a golden heart
For many years I assumed havells is a International brand. That’s how well they have branded it and captured the market share..
