One of my personal goals for 2024 was to journal more with no required topics and just write down whatever came to mind when I put pen to paper. Some of the things I've written so far have been about celebrations in my life, new lessons and experiences, proud mom-moments and some not so proud mom-moments, feelings on current events, a quote that motivated me, and countless reflections of the past - the writing is free flowing, and totally random. If you've read Matthew McConaughey's autobiography "Greenlights", you'll totally understand what I'm saying.
March is my 9-year anniversary with Client Command, and as I am putting pen to paper, reflecting on my career, I cannot help but appreciate what my first job taught me.
I was an eager 21-year-old with a Marketing Degree. Little did I know that a Marketing Degree really meant I would land in sales and not in creative advertising, but I'm thankful it did. I was hired as a Small Business Account Executive at Vocus. I had some of the best role models, coaches and colleagues. I learned A TON during my years at Vocus, but there are 3 things I learned early in my career that have stuck with me:
1. Always hold yourself accountable and own it when you fall short – it is all about extreme ownership.
2. Initiative will take you far – don't wait for the opportunity, take the initiative to make the opportunity for yourself because nothing is just given to you.
3. 1+1=3 (you like how I made that my 3rd bullet) – the synergies that can be created by connecting and working with others who are likeminded in goals and values, can lead to greater, and even better results, than acting solo.
