Colruyt is currently targeting the masses with ads on social media talking sustainability."My Instagram is filled with it everyday." But when given a stage by the press asking them to respond to their enormous amounts of unnecessary double plastic packaging, they refuse to speak on camera again and again. This plastic packaging has a profoundly negative impact on the environment, the climate, people and animals. Therefore we urge everyone to: ⛔ Stop buying products with double packaging 📸 Report double packaging on the Fost Plus website: https://lnkd.in/enRhP7yN Supermarkets should shift to significantly less packaging, adopting reusable options and offering products without packaging. Nescafé recently launched a new recyclable paper refill pack for its Gold Blend coffee. ♻️ Designed to be easily recycled through kerbside collection. This new packaging option is a huge improvement! Cutting down the product's weight by a remarkable 97% compared to the traditional glass jars. This is part of Nestlé's broader goal to reduce its virgin plastic usage by a third by 2025. This new decision isn’t just a step for sustainability… It’s also brought an opportunity for a brand refresh - giving Nescafé a more modern image. ☕ The coffee industry is becoming more sustainable… Have you noticed similar initiatives from other brands? https://lnkd.in/eARk59JQ

When sustainability factors drive packaging decisions, "shrinkflation" (downsizing a product without reducing the price) may not be the best strategy. Reducing product size can have environmental consequences, from increased packaging used per unit of product to increased transport trips for both consumers and shipping. More sustainable options could be lightweighting, (reducing the packaging weight rather than the product weight), using recycled content, increasing reusability, evaluating material choice, or designing out excess or non-recyclable features.

Of this year's winners, the Pepsi and Heinz winning projects highlight where sustainability is not only affordable, but when done right, can help reduce componentry, save costs, and produce a better overall product - in addition of course to the improved streamlining of recycling and a diminished overall carbon footprint. Both of these projects also overcome the differences in consumer sustainability mindsets and priorities, which vary by region, globally (ref. McKinsey & Co. report from Aug. 15, 2023; "Sustainability in packaging 2023: Inside the minds of global consumers"). Kudos to the selection committee on this year's award winners as they truly are representing the types of gains we have been needing in product lines with high annual volumes, which equate to significant positive sustainability impacts. It offers us all inspiration to ideate the next great impactful ideas. #sustainability #packagingdesign https://lnkd.in/eWDAB4_6

🌍 Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a must. Aldi’s paper wine bottles show that green innovation is possible, but real change? That takes more than talk. Gen Z is watching—75% of them care more about sustainability than brand names. They’ll judge us by what we do, not what we say. Retailers and suppliers need to lead with bold actions, not just good intentions.🌱 #Sustainability #GreenInnovation
