After navigating through some bold past designs, Team GB is returning to it’s roots with a classic, conservative look that pays homage to the traditional red, white, and blue. 🔵 The striking navy backdrop of the official kits offers a fresh yet familiar canvas that highlights the Union flag. This choice marks a subtle shift from the previously white-based competition kits, adding a layer of sophistication and unity. 🥇 On the podium, our athletes will shine in white-based tracksuits adorned with the Union flag on the arm, a design choice that Adidas says will allow the medals to truly stand out, embodying a "clean radiant look." 👕 The kits feature a typeface inspired by the historic 1924 Paris Games, enhancing the connection between past and present. Nike has released controversial USA track and field kit for the Paris Olympics 2024. Continuing a debate that has been going on for as long as we can remember 🤷🏽♂️ Current and former athletes aren’t holding back their comments on this kit release. Claiming that the women’s design is: - Unnecessarily revealing. - Offering sexist undertones. - Not practical to a woman’s performance. This has been an ongoing conversation for years. With many debates and rage over the revealing outfits for female Olympians. Especially in the volleyball and gymnastics categories. So, while we see steps in the right direction… Such as New Zealand's ruling to allow women to wear shorts or leggings over their leotards. Many feel like Nike has taken two steps back. But Nike is letting all athletes know: The women’s teams will have multiple uniform options available. In fact, the track and field kits for men and women include nearly 50 apparel pieces. As well as 12 competition styles for specific events. This released kit is just one of the many options. It is important that athletes have a choice when it comes to attire. They need to feel: - Pride. - Confidence. - Comfortable. To perform their best. Hopefully, all athletes choose the kit attire that will suit their unique needs for the Olympics. P.S. Olympics: Battle of the Shoes! The day of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony has arrived and the excitement is building. Athletes have trained for a lifetime for this opportunity to show the world what they can do, and so have the running shoe brands. The big noise in the build up has been the ‘Spray On’ shoe from On Running, will it stand up to the pressure of competing on the greatest stage and propel this rapidly growing brand even further? Nike have also been vocal with their ‘New and Better’ models as they look to regain the attention and capture market share back from their rivals. This could be a tipping point and one that needs seized upon, it could be four years before the next big chance to show the world what their shoes can do. adidas will be looking to put a marker down and reaffirm their status as a leader in the running shoe game. The visible competition is on the track and roads, but in the background these brands have a competition of their own, to be the best performing and most visible. The running shoe market is hot just now, with those mentioned already and other brands offering amazing product such as Asics, Brooks, Saucony, New Balance, Hoka, Hylo, Mizuno & Kiprun. These games are a chance to steal a march on the competition, and some of the brands who aren’t represented at this games, will already have their eye on four years time. Has Nike prioritised ‘skimpiness over function’? They’ve unveiled the Nike kit for the US team, and this is what some of the women say: “They are absolutely not made for performance,” US steeplechaser Colleen Quigley. “Professional athletes should be able to compete without dedicating brain space to constant pube vigilance or the mental gymnastics of having every vulnerable piece of your body on display. Women’s kits should be in service to performance, mentally and physically. Worldwide, we're levelling the playing field, doing our part to protect our collective playground and expanding access to sport for everyone.” I couldn’t find Nike values, however they talk about key priorities which serves instead: 👉🏼We build diverse, equitable, and inclusive teams. 👉🏼And champion a transparent, responsible supply chain so people can thrive. 👉🏼We create opportunities for kids and communities to access resources so they can excel. 👉🏼And we innovate and scale more sustainable solutions to help protect our planet. I expected something around design and performance of kit from shoes to clothes amidst their values or principles, so I’m not quite sure how the contentious ‘very high-cut pantyline’ fits within the Nike moral compass.
