New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services’ Post

Since 2022, NHDES Watershed Management Specialist Polly Crocker has been working with UNH on the New Hampshire Stream Crossing Replacement Prioritization Project. Using funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, this project aims to pilot a stakeholder-informed model that prioritizes stream crossing replacement in order to provide better road safety, ecosystem restoration, aquatic organism passage, climate resiliency and more. Check out this article about the project in New Hampshire Town and County’s May/June 2024 issue: https://lnkd.in/eQQRerDB

Watershed moment I agree with the NHSCI project goals and great educational partnership with UNH in successfully conducting stream crossing field assessment for 4,000 stream crossings; on how stream fragmentation increases flood risk, road safety, pollution, biodiversity, especially for updating these 20,000 structures scattered across the State, with limited resources. Here in Cleveland, Ohio I have assisted grant seekers to improve watersheds available through green infrastructure grants provided by Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, to mitigate runoff caused by combined sewer overflow and impermeable surface conveyance. Definitely have your team check your sewer districts across New Hampshire, they also may have green infrastructure grants. Furthermore, I have also conducted field studies for 500 research sites across Cleveland Metroparks healthy forest assessment, when I was a Natural Resources Specialist, and can relate to his monumental research work. - I am a job candidate for the Food Waste Diversion Specialist #40511 at NHDES. If extended an offer I will retire with the NHDES team!

This is fantastic! Working on the NH Stream Crossing Assessment protocol and initiative during my time working for the State is a fond memory of mine. It’s very exciting to see planning and implementation work in NH on this topic.
