Today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD), a worldwide initiative to improve awareness of level crossing safety.   Appropriately, today Aurizon has launched their major national level crossing community education and awareness campaign, Respect the sign. Lives are on the line. The campaign is told through the eyes of those directly impacted by level crossing events, with a goal to raise awareness about the importance of level crossing safety, among motorists, truck drivers, pedestrians and local communities.    Also in recent weeks, the Australian Government launched their own national advertising campaign as part of its commitment to improve safety around regional railway crossings. The campaign raises awareness of the importance of being cautious around regional railway crossings, emphasising the message to ‘Slow down. Look. Listen for trains.’    "It's great to see all the recent work being undertaken within the rail industry with broader road safety efforts in mind. Safety as at it should be. Wet and dark roads. Low visibility. Not the safest conditions to work in. But these guys managed to do it in all safety without worrying about any incoming traffic thanks to the smallest TMA on the market today. According the Belgian Law, no TMA is requiered for low speed traffic zones. These guys didn’t wait for it and chose to put their safety first. In this first phase of port planning the location of the new terminals was decided based on maritime, sustainability, connectivity and environmental aspects. In the next phase the operational design including the intermodal connections will be designed in more detail. SPS is honoured to be part of this unique port development.

Silverstream, in collaboration with Shipyard MEYER WERFT GmbH & Co. KG, will install its air lubrication technology on a new Excel-class Carnival Cruise Line ship. The vessel, which will be delivered in 2027, is a sister ship to the Carnival Jubilee – which already has the Silverstream® System installed.    In the Autumn of 2022, Carnival signed a major fleet deal with Silverstream to install the Silverstream® System across its cruise brands; a clear recognition of the value and return on investment the technology offers.   The Silverstream® System enables cruise owners and operators to meet customer, regulatory, and wider societal demands for improved environmental performance. It creates a uniform carpet of microbubbles that coats the full flat bottom of a vessel, reducing friction between the hull and the water. As a result, average net fuel consumption and GHG emissions are decreased by 5-10%, helping shipowners save fuel, lower emissions and reduce costs.   Air Lubrication is well suited to cruise vessels and supports the industry’s focus on ‘Sustainable Cruising’.
