From clinical trials research to the moment when he knew he wanted to be an ophthalmologist, Joseph M. Coney, MD, FACS, FASRS, shares heartfelt insights in this short video; we hope you enjoy! #makingadifference#patientsfirst
One of the greatest things that makes retina social special. Is a clinical trial work that we've done since the 1970s. We have been involved in some of the earliest treatments to treat both diabetes as well as macular degeneration and we have been involved in both Phase 123 and even some phase four clinical trials. What this really means is that we're able to bring cutting edge medicine to the communities in which we serve. And I'm very proud of the work that we've done. I'm excited to know. That every drug that's approved for the back of the eye we have been involved in and I'm very happy to offer those as options for my patients. You know there are so many stories I have for my patients which. Are so memorable, but I think the one that helped me decide ophthalmology, I think is one I've never forgotten. It's a lady who had bilateral cataracts. We did one surgery, she was admitted to the hospital and the day that she came in for her one day appointment. She comes to this small little. Ophthalmology Room. And in that room, she had her pastor, her system pastor, her four kids, the doctor, the fellow of myself. And we took the patch off. She began to ***. And for the first time in 15 years, she was able to see him. And that's the day I chose to become an ophthalmologist.
