REGISTERED BUILDING INSPECTORS According to BSR, as of 30 July, there were 4,049 RBI's registered. Class 1 (Trainee) – 1,971 Class 2 (Registered Building Inspector) – 1,614 Class 3 (Specialist Building Inspector) – 464 [Class 4 (Building Inspector – Technical Manager) – 516 - of course these are also Class 2 or Class 3 RBI's] A quick reminder of the requirement for supervision and the extended deadlines given by BSR. From the 6th July 2024, if you are registered at Class 1, then you must work under supervision unless you have a personal letter from either BSCF, CABE or BCCA confirming you can continue to work while awaiting results of examination or assessment - and only then within the classification of work for which you have applied. (Note - the scheme providers have a letter from BSR of those individual RBI's who benefit from this extension). Without this letter you cannot undertake restricted activities or advise on restricted functions without supervision from an appropriately registered and competent Class 2 or Class 3 RBI. What are red flags in a job? An employer's unwillingness to negotiate, whether it's about salary, benefits, or flexibility, can be a red flag. Negotiation is a standard part of the job offer process, and a flat refusal may indicate a lack of flexibility or appreciation for your worth. FYI I missed the red flags but tried to stay and hold on for the Safety of the employees. But the excuse not a good fit pushed me out of my job as a trained and experienced CSSS and OSHA Master Trainer. I was good with the management but when put with the employees. And QA/QC drilling me daily about if the job was Time & Material and about how bad they thought the company was on the project daily, how they could take the construction manager and even the project manager job, calling the employees lazy, displaying uncomfortable office talk in front of the ONLY Female. I was put in a position where I had NO ONE to turn to in the company without getting retaliation. I feared for my job. No one deserved to be put in a hostile work environment and be subject to unwanted behavior of unproper office talk and behavior by the employees and managerment on a daily basis. **General Work Ethic a thought I've kept over the years, that's helped me at work. To sabotage another person's abilities in their job performance is the most petty behavior I've ever seen in my work life. I've experienced over the years, a certain style of self insecurity and jealousy that happens with a person working "on their tools" that have a declasse approach to working with field management. sure, there are literally thousands of "foremen/foreperson" etc that know extremely little or are still at a struggling level with their crew's craft/skill set. many also struggle with even the most basic skills of leadership. just remember, if you train even the biggest jerk, even that jerk will have a compulsion to know some respect back to you, at some point, now or the future. I've been there, and if you actually know "your job" at the level you genuinely should. that person can't argue it.
