Very cool photo! But is it a photo? Perfect mini case study on how long exposure in photography simultaneously represents and distorts what is "real." A more common example is photography of Iron Dome in Israel. I see this image as a valuable piece of visual journalism and to most people self-evident, but context is crucial and should travel with the image so audiences can clearly understand what is authentic (or not) about it.

Experiment with Exposure at Sunrise and Sunset! Whatever exposure mode you use, it's a good idea to experiment with the brightness of any shots you take at sunrise or sunset. It's important to create the right mood, so you need to make sure they're not too dark or too light. If you're in Africa or anywhere near the equator, for instance, the sun goes down pretty quickly, but you can extend your shooting time by under- or overexposing your images. In addition, you can add saturation and a more reddish hue if you underexpose by one or two stops (as I did here). One of the things I enjoy most about aviation photography is the challenge of photographing a subject capable of great speed and finding ways to demonstrate that speed in a static image. For airplanes like this P-40 Warhawk, flown by Thom Richard, a terrific way to convey speed when low to the ground is to use a slower shutter speed, while smoothly panning with the aircraft. In this instance I used a Nikon Z9 with a Nikkor 500mm, f/5.6 PF @ 1/100 sec, f/6.3, ISO 32. The resulting photograph blurs the background nicely, while keeping the subject sharp. The rare moment a emergency vehicle passes during a night shoot. Knowing this was coming, I slowed the shutter to create light streaks. Using the flash to freeze frame the couple worked perfectly. Not hard to create but not easy either. Knowledge of balancing flash and ambient is important as well as shutter speeds.
