🥧 A Slice of Well-being on National Pi Day! 🥧 As we come together as a unified nation in celebrating the mathematical constant π (3.14) 👨👩👧👧 , let's take a moment to indulge in a slice of workplace well-being. Just as π is essential in the realm of mathematics, prioritizing employee well-being is fundamental to fostering a thriving work environment. Here are three ingredients for a healthy workplace well-being "π" : 1️⃣ Purpose: Just as π represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, a clear sense of purpose forms the circumference of a fulfilling work life ⭕. Circles represent connection --- and encouraging employees to connect with their professional purpose cultivates motivation, engagement, and a sense of belonging. 🤝 2️⃣ Prioritizing Mental Health 🧠 : π is infinite and continuous, just like how mental health requires continuous ongoing attention and care. Consistent communication to provide resources and support can help with destigmatizing conversations around mental health. This will inevitably create a workplace culture where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to prioritize their well-being; just like it's inevitable that I eat an entire key lime pie in one sitting. 3️⃣ Practice Mindful Leadership: Much like the precision required in calculating or reciting the entirety of π, mindful leadership involves deliberate, "in-the-moment" awareness and empathetic decision-making. By fostering an environment of trust, transparency, and compassion, leaders can inspire and empower their teams to achieve their fullest potential. On this National Pi Day, one of the greatest of all days 😁, let's remember that just as π is infinite, so too should be our commitment to workplace wellness. In the modern age of constant connectivity and work demands, it is important to recognize the power of putting the out of office and taking a break. While many may perceive productivity as solely dependent on long working hours and uninterrupted focus, research suggests that regular breaks can significantly enhance overall productivity levels. By stepping away from work responsibilities, individuals are able to replenish their energy reserves, regain mental clarity, and ultimately improve their cognitive abilities when they return to the tasks at hand. This intentional pause not only nurtures individual wellbeing but also contributes positively to workplace dynamics by reducing stress levels and fostering a healthy work-life balance. Moreover, organizations that actively encourage employees to take time off demonstrate their commitment towards employee retention and mental health support. It is time for me to do just this with Green Cross Global, my out-of-office is going on for 2 weeks and my focus will be on myself and my family. Navigating the complexities of mental wellbeing at work isn't a solo journey; it's a collective effort. The KPMG 2020 Report identifies the top five elements that bolster mental health: managerial and peer support tops the list at 76%, followed by equitable treatment at 73%. Work-life balance stands at 65%, with organisational culture at 64% and job satisfaction at 56%. These aren't just statistics; they are actionable insights. Leaders can focus on enhancing management training to provide adequate support, while HR teams could develop fair work policies. Promoting a healthy work-life balance, perhaps through flexible working arrangements, can also make a significant difference. These targeted strategies can effectively turn the tide, creating an environment where wellbeing isn't just a word but a lived experience.

“ You champion wellbeing for us and are very respectful of our individual flexibility needs. However, to feel fully empowered we need to see you role-modeling wellbeing for yourself”. In June, my team shared some valuable feedback with me, and it really hit home. Well-being may result in different choices for each of us, and as a manager, it's my responsibility to set the example. Actively demonstrating how I prioritize proactive rest and self-care is the way to give my team a real permission and encouragement to do the same. In recent months, I've made a conscious effort to make visible how I leverage our 50% flexible work policy to find my own own balance to drive productivity and quality of life by: - Recognizing that at times I’m not at my most efficient and deciding to tackle the topic with a fresh mind the next day. - Prioritizing my Monday mornings yoga class, which means not being available before 10. - Opting for phone calls over zoom for informal catch-up meetings, so I can move around freely. As recently seen in a Sanofi Culture Talk video by Brian Kropp : for 3 out of 4 employees their manager has more impact than their partner on their wellbeing. What a responsibility, but also what an opportunity to continue to shape together a workplace that truly encourages wellbeing for all! #allwell #wellbeing #mentalhealth
