🇪🇺 🎉 It's been nearly 20 years since the Czech Republic, along with eight other predominantly Central and Eastern European countries, joined the club of member states of the European Union. This anniversary calls for celebration! To mark the occasion, we're curating at KVIFF.TV a film collection featuring 20 European movies, as diverse and colorful as Europe can get, entertaining, satirical, captivating and heartfelt, legendary as well as hidden gems, from every corner of the continent. 💙 On a personal note, I vividly remember the atmosphere of that historic moment on May 1st, 2004 when I was in my 20s. Borders dissolved, opening doors to new opportunities for education, work, and life abroad. There was a palpable sense of hope that our country would bridge the gap in prosperity and quality of life compared to the economic powerhouses neighboring us. I was certain I would once tell my kids and their kids about it. About how many things moved overnight from "totally impossible" to "no problem" category. Whether we've fully seized upon those opportunities is up for debate. But I want us to revive the big idea behind that union and remember its value for us as individuals, as humans and as a democratic society. Twenty years may lead us to take certain privileges for granted, and effortless. But let's remember nothing is automatic, or achieved without effort, and today, we need a drop of that optimism in our veins more than ever. SHARED EXPERIENCE & INVITATION In the last week, I have finished another Gladiator race. This time, probably the most difficult (and fun) one of the season. It was hot, very muddy, looong (10km, 40 obstacles), and taking place at the tank training area (Milovice). Why I am sharing this is that there is no better way how to strengthen relationships with your (business) friends :) Every time, tens of people tell me - "Yes, I will certainly go with you etc. etc." and then these promises evaporate. Similarly to any other business dealings 😊 This time, two of them promised, actually "delivered" and finished this hell with me - Patrik Sobek & Jan Ondruš, RESPECT! Why am I sharing this with you? I believe that there is nothing more important in business than to deliver on given promises. I am very happy that two of my personal as well as business friends completed this with me! We will all remember it by far more than another golf or tennis round 😊 The next one will be happening in the Holice swamp in just 2 weeks, better to get ready 💪 Secondly, my colleague Jan Koflák in his free time started to work on a large conference on GenZ together with CSOB, Hospodárske noviny, Prague University of Economics and Business, and Strateggo. Literally, in a few weeks, he built a program for hundreds of people (goal) and will run this event already next week - 14 May. Ahead of tonight's crucial final against Poland, I've been looking at - how this team manages turnover - how it manages itself in adversity - where is it's thought process? Turnover - There have been huge departures and absences (Bale, Ramsey) where younger, less senior players have been required to step up and grasp the responsibility of leading. Ethan Ampadu and Harry Wilson immediately come to mind. Adversity - You could argue that qualification should have been a formality. Poor results against Latvia and Armenia placed us in a hole. But it's surely how a team responds to adversity which is more important? Thought Process - Finally, tonight poses a 'Sliding Doors' moment for the players, staff and 3 million fans. Is it a summer on the beach in Málaga or a journey to Germany that we remember for a lifetime? Primarily, focus on the task in hand and the outcome takes care of itself.
