The P@lest!n!an Journalists’ Syndicate reports that Israel has claimed the lives of over 100 P@lest!n!an journalists in G@ z@ in less than 100 days. This shocking toll surpasses the number of journalists killed during the entire six-year duration of World War II, which saw 69 journalists lose their lives. The data suggests that, on average, Israel has been responsible for more than one P@lest!n!an journalist’s death each day for over three months. The victims, undeterred by personal losses inflicted by I5r@el, continued to report on the dire situation in their communities. Despite facing the loss of loved ones, city-wide starvation, and the reduction of their neighborhoods to rubble, these journalists aimed to shed light on the horrors I5r@el was imposing on their communities, hoping that global awareness would prompt intervention. Political attacks on press freedom, including the detention of journalists, suppression of independent media outlets and widespread dissemination of misinformation, have significantly intensified in the past year, according to the annual World Press Freedom Index published by Reporters Without Borders (RSF). #pressfreedom #journalism #journalist #worldpressfreedom #worldpressfreedomday #worldpressfreedomday2024

On #WorldPressFreedomDay, we find ourselves at a particularly critical moment: Attacks on press freedom and #CivicSpace continue to threaten our democracy, both at home and abroad. Since 1992, 2186 media workers have paid the ultimate price in direct connection to their work—a sobering reminder of the perils faced by those dedicated to speaking truth to power. Reporters like The Wall Street Journal's Evan Gershkovich, who has faced intimidation, harassment, and unjust detention for simply doing his job as a journalist in #Russia, and Vladimir Kara-Murza, who has survived multiple poisoning attempts and has been imprisoned since April 2022 for speaking out against the war on #Ukraine, symbolize the dangers #journalists confront merely for doing their jobs. The incidents in Russia are not isolated; they echo a broader trend of escalating risks faced by journalists worldwide. In 1961, my father pointedly chose to give his first speech as Attorney General to the American Society of Newspaper Editors. “In a world where peace is our great endeavor and where we are fighting continuously for the good will of all mankind, it is tremendously important the American public get an accurate picture of what is happening,” he said. “And I don’t know of any better way than by newspapers digging into the government, finding out what is going on, and reporting it accurately.” The challenges faced by journalists not only endanger individual reporting but also erode the fundamental right to #FreeSpeech and access to information. While EU nations have spent years lecturing others on press freedom, this report shows that all is not well with the continent's own news media. Public service media in countries like Hungary have virtually been captured by the government. There are also reports of physical harassment and snooping operations on European journalists. What is the European Union doing to fix this issue? Should the EU stop its lectures on press freedoms until it can put its own house in order? As you hear or read news, do you swallow all things said trustingly? Do you search for substantiation of claims and statements made. In the era of Edward R. Murrow, journalists risked much to search for and deliver facts. That standard is dead. If it lived, the viewer and audience would follow a journalist's queries and investigation of assertions. Congressman Adam Schiff wouldn't have been invited to liberal cable networks repeatedly to look into the camera, at the viewer, and promise more evidence of Russian collusion existed- when he knew the following. There had been zero collusion, there would be no more. Compulsive narrative more like it would have been the result of "digging". In this Presidential election, two "known" leaders compete. If I was a journalist worthy of the title, I would ask, in what way was #45 a dictator? How does opening border walls benefit the citizens of our country? How does the U.S. enable Iran, the state sponsor of terrorism, while tying Ally Israel's hands and feet in THEIR war for THEIR SURVIVAL? How does "democracy" differ from "our democracy", as we live the OUR one during 46's term? It's not really his term. It's only since 6/27 the media "decided" by the powers that be- who we can't identify- that it's time to stop hiding and pretending that #46 is ill and unable to lead. But that has been the fact, while Mrs. 46 and Obama staffers continue #44's agendas. Journalists worth their salt would be telling you this and you would trust them. Today, Maddow, Morning Joe, Network news, Psaki, are part of the scripted braid (lockstep) of the Progressive approach to their idea (you hear that word much) of what democracy should be! Absent journalists, find the whistleblowers and do your own thinking instead of swallowing the pablum by the shovel.
