We have a problem: We have abandoned our local foods and fallen for the trap. If government raises taxes on this trap, we may protest because we believe it hates us. No. When you stand in the supermarket and have the feeling that there is no one like you about to buy a packaged food product, do you know that the chances you are shortening your life are very high? So many packaged food products have been found to have excessive amounts of sugar, salt, fats, and calories, which is responsible for the growing burden of chronic conditions. We live in a generation that is dying younger than their parents. Ever wondered why? -Oh! Most times, there are there are no thoughts from our end on this. We feel we will live forever? There's no better lie than that one is "enjoying" a product that maybe harmful to their health and worst, if they do not know. And yes, Based on WHO recommendations, we have been eating unhealthy packaged products without our knowledge. While the food industry remains an important industry for saving us from hunger, it must not prioritize profits over people. So, holding the food and beverage industry legally accountable for corporate conduct that threatens human rights—the right to life, the right to health—should be the number one commitment of everyone while we take responsibility for what we produce and eat or buy and eat. 🍪 Trans-fatty acids (TFAs), also known as trans fats, pose significant health risks when consumed regularly. These fats are artificially created through hydrogenation, a process that converts liquid oils into solid fats and enhances food texture and shelf life. Despite these advantages in food production, trans fats are linked to numerous adverse health effects. They raise LDL (bad) cholesterol levels while lowering HDL (good) cholesterol, thereby increasing the risk of coronary heart disease. Additionally, consumption of trans fats is associated with inflammation, insulin resistance, and an elevated risk of type 2 diabetes. The World Health Organization (WHO) and other health authorities recommend minimizing trans fat intake to mitigate these health risks, advocating for policies and regulations to limit their presence in food products globally.

As much as am a Faith being, I still make deliberate effort to plan. We started our share and buy platform during COVID pandemic and by January 2021, *Ounjeeh Food bank* became talk of the town due to convenience and more importantly, the low- cost and quality of food items the platform provided. In the picture is the the type of the first set of onions we shared and a bag was just #14,000. Today, we are battling with hike in prices, availability and quality. Did we go through the harvest season last year When produce will be surplus and prices fall ? Yes but it was as good as no because nothing changed that could help reduce the cost of food for consumers. Have you planned for your food security this year? Tips that can help you. 1. Join a verified food cooperative. 2. Be a committed financial member. 3. Plan your meal atleast weekly basis, this will help you project what you need in a month that cooperative will work with. 4. Be disciplined when it comes to your eating habits. This will not just help your finances but also your health. 5. Cultivate a small garden with that space at your backyard even if it's just leafy vegetables. They really help. 6. Always upgrade your knowledge about food storage and preservation. It’s National Junk Food Day With the advent of packaged foods during the late 1800s, #JunkFood made its way into American life. Still, home-cooked meals remained the standard for several more decades. Eventually, after World War II, the artery-clogging industry took off. Since the population ate out more, traveled more, the industry was primed to produce products at an increased rate. From the frozen food aisle to fast food chains, a myriad of choices for consumers flooded the market. Potato chips, baked goods and so much more filled supermarket shelves, prepackaged and ready to go. The term “junk food” dates back at least to the early 1950s, although its coinage has been credited to Michael F.
