Senior Data Analyst at Humana | I post about FREE data analytics tips & resources. | Data Education Creator on TikTok (150k+) | Obsessed with Self-Improvement
5 ways to get the attention of hiring managers when trying to get your first data analyst job: 1. Build an outstanding project portfolio showcasing not only that you have the necessary technical skills, but you also can think critically to solve business problems. 2. Email the hiring manager every hour on the hour; that way they know how serious you are. 3. Paint a portrait of the hiring manager and ship it to their house so they know you’re artsy too, not just technical. 4. Show up at the recruiter’s home unannounced with guitar in hand. Play the song you wrote about how they should hire you to be their “Analyst of Love”. 5. Realize that none of this was ever about becoming a data analyst. It was about falling in love. It was about showing relentless, unconditional passion to the love of your life. It all started with getting the attention of a hiring manager. Or so you thought. In reality, you were getting the attention of your future life partner. Data analytics is pretty cool. Falling in love is even better. And if the hiring manager (love of your life) doesn’t feel the same way, I guess it’s time to hire a sky writer!

One of the boldest mistakes I have seen in hiring Data Analysts is... when you hire someone with some experience in User Acquisition analysis and think that this person is capable of doing deep research related to User Activation or User Engagement/Retention. There are several important nuances in the User Acquisition (UA) domain: * UA is often about what happens with users before they touch the product * UA takes into account marketing investments * UA is often about short-term thinking If we talking about user Activation/Engagement/Retention then all the above-mentioned points are inverted: * intensive behavior research * barely related to UA source (and costs) * aligned with the long-term vision #dataanalyst #hiring
