Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the things that I am grateful to have learned in the dietetics field. When you’re a student/intern, you tend to overlook the “boring” and/or not-so-glamorous parts of dietetics and tend to view certain requirements as just a means to an end. But there are so many things that we do with that knowledge on a daily basis without even realizing it. We are not the “food police” and we do not just “tell people what to eat” or “make meal plans.” Getting your ServSafe certification may seem boring, but there’s not a day that goes by that I’m not storing my meats under my ready-to-eat foods in the fridge or making sure my meals are safe to eat (because food has to be safe for it to be healthy) Learning about USDA/government programs may seem redundant, but there are so many resources I can refer my peers to that can help them live healthier, less-stressful lives. When I see food being thrown out, I automatically think about food waste, food deserts, food insecurity, and sustainability. When I see an influencer flaunting what they “eat in a day,” I’m thinking about the damage and shame that brings to those who can’t afford that kind of lifestyle. When a friend tells me their doctor is concerned with their BMI, I can give them context about all of the other (not poor) indicators of health. Im glad I learned how to interpret research, write a thesis, differentiate correlation vs causation, and decipher clickbait from facts. I’m glad I can inform someone that the keto diet was actually introduced in the 1920s as a treatment for epilepsy, not for people to fear carbs & lose 20 pounds just to gain it right back. & I’m happy I can help the little old lady talking to herself in the grocery store trying to pick out a healthy can of soup. 🤍 #nationalnutritionmonth #nnm #rd #thelittlethings

It's not just a saying. First impressions really do matter. This goes far beyond looks. Usually the first impression that my team and I receive are through DMs on LinkedIn and through email. We start from that point deciding if we think you will be a good fit. Btw your clinical and food service skills won't always get you in the door. Professionalism is highly needed. 1 out of 11 million Did anyone watch the National Spelling Bee this week? 🐝🐝🐝 Apparently, officials go around to schools all around the country and other English speaking counties. 229 eventually got chosen this year to compete on stage. Yes, these kids are smart. They taught themselves certain prefixes and suffixes, origins of certain words, etc. The spelling is obviously impressive, but I saw a lot more. More attributes that I was more amazed by. ⏩dedication ⏩dealing with stress/pressure ⏩learning how to lose (even the winner had to be ready for that) And that's just the beginning. They looked like little adults on stage by the way that they handle themselves. A little reminder in the work world too. Weight Management During the Holidays December is month of chaos, joy, and stress for a lot of people. When it comes to weight management, don’t lose sight of your goal! • Focus on maintaining your current weight loss. That’s been the key for a while when it comes to holidays. • Follow the healthy plate method by getting plenty of vegetables, protein, and smaller servings of all the starches and desserts. • Limit caloric beverages like sweet tea and soda. Stay hydrated with low-calorie beverages. • Keep up with your physical activity. Go for a short walk, 10-15 minutes, once or twice a day to minimize weight re-gain. • Get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. #Flashbacktuesday #2019 #clinicalnutrition #dieticiannutritionist Things I would tell my young self as a nutrition and dietetics graduate: √Keep doing it,,even when shaking,,even when nobody believes in you. √Nutrition knowledge alone is not enough to help you grow in your career,,, you need to work on your soft skills too. √Challenge the status quo...it might be what was needed to take things to the next level. √Be open to learning,,,we get better by learning to learn.

You shouldn't have to beg. One thing I learned with anything (a job, a home, personal and business relationships), you shouldn't have to beg someone to provide you your desired outcome. Yes you can ask someone to reconsider and put your best foot forward by telling them more details about why you deserve the thing you desire, but it should stop there.
