🌿#HealthySoils are crucial for all different aspects of human lives, as well as for the #Sustainability of environmental practices and the global #WellBeing!🌿 🚀On January 15-16, the ENoLL (European Network of Living Labs) is delighted to announce the kick-off meeting of #SOILLStartup, a project that initiates the entire SOILL Framework Support Structure! Focusing on the first two years of the #FPA, SOILL-Startup actions will encompass its main goal to co-design and launch the #SOILL one-stop structure for coordination, support, enlargement, and promotion of the network of 100 #LivingLabs and #Lighthouses funded under the #SoilDealMission. 🌍🌱 To meet such a goal, SOILL-Startup ambitions will include dedicated support, capacity building, networking and knowledge exchange, promotion, and regular monitoring and assessment. These actions will be performed in participatory collaboration with the first waves of funded Soil Health Living Labs and Lighthouses and key stakeholders and initiatives to lead a sustainable, reliable, and replicable transition towards #HealthySoils. #REFOOTURE: Rethinking, Reshaping, Regenerating our Future Food Systems   Exciting developments from REFOOTURE were recently shared during the Keynote presentation at the launch of the Wageningen Global Sustainability program. 🚀   We are facing degraded landscapes, diminishing solidarity, and climate extremes. REFOOTURE took a proactive approach by establishing motivated Living Labs in Nakuru, Bahir Dar, and Arua to co-create with communities some inspiring innovative cases and youth initiatives while in the meantime exploring potential pathways for developing resilient food systems.   Key to success? Cultivating Connections: Thea-Isabella Otto’s Journeys Through the Next Gen Ag Landscape Part 2 After attending the #Indooragcon in Las Vegas, I traveled to San Francisco for the World Agri-Tech Summit. Although the focus at the previous event had been on controlled environment agriculture (CEA), this topic didn't receive as much attention at the summit in San Francisco. However, this turned out to be a positive thing. The summit wasn't solely focused on vertical farms, which have been struggling lately. It was a diverse gathering of innovators from across the entire agri-food spectrum. The event took place on March 19th and 20th, and attracted a high-level delegation of 2,400 people from 58 countries to discuss the future of sustainable agriculture. As someone in the indoor farming industry, this was a unique opportunity. While the Indoor AG-CON in Las Vegas primarily attracted industry professionals, the World Agri-Tech Summit in San Francisco provided a direct link to potential investors and retailers. It was like having a front-row seat to the future of food production, where cutting-edge technology meets real-world demand. The very first person to contact us after founding Nala Earth was Johannes Knubben, Head of Sustainability at HiPP-Gruppe (Baby Food Manufacturer), saying, "I want to work with you!" For a company whose philosophy is "producing the highest quality products in balance with nature," this step was obvious and extremely courageous at the same time. We immediately went into the doing, analysing several HiPP production and supplier sites across Europe using our Nature Management Tool. This involved assessing the condition of nature and biodiversity along their supply chain, gaining a high-level overview of nature impacts and dependencies, and identifying hotspots. Our top 3 insights we gained from the analysis were: 🌲 Tree Population Changes: We identified areas where the tree population had changed over time, which Hipp then discussed with suppliers to find solutions. 💦 Water Stress: We pinpointed production sites particularly affected by high water stress, requiring active management in collaboration with site managers. 🌍 Proximity to Protected Areas: We discovered sites located near protected areas, highlighting the need for vigorous biodiversity protection efforts. As the saying goes, "What we cannot measure, we cannot manage", these insights form the foundation for nature-positive action, including strategy definition, target setting, and implementation. Johannes is optimistic about the upcoming CSRD reporting initiative: "CSRD is not just a reporting obligation for us, but also a reporting opportunity. It presents opportunities in transformation and to manage existing natural risks while actively seeking potential competitive advantages!"
