Loosing good berries because of physical damages is always a shame🤕 This berry was in perfect shape before it got "rubbed" against a part of the system and got damaged! We usually place a ribbon supposed to support the fruit stem (the truss) to carry the heavy strawberries growing on it... 🪂 ⛓️This ribbon was misplaced and harmed this berry when I was operating in the system. Lessons learned thanks to this at Vertiberry by Urban Harvest: ⚙️ the system got improved to optimize the location of the truss-support system 💡 we learned the importance of the length of the trusses, not only for harvest but also for fruit quality 📜 the operations practices got adjusted to the risks ➡️By testing, we continuously improve our systems! #agtech #foodwastereduction #foodtech

🐣All The Steps🐣 . Every Monday we have a team huddle with all of us working together on the farm. We talk through weekly updates, what has shifted with the weather and how that changes the needs of the birds, the land and we create new processes. 🌱 Every single step it takes to create this ending photo of shipping our chicks at the post office are all completely different equally important. From proper management of the flocks, cleaning of coops, egg collecting, sorting/incubating, troubleshooting, customer servicing, hatching, sorting, brooding, packing, shipping it is a whole lot of moving parts. Our team is small, just four of us but we are mighty and joyful everyday. 💫 🌱 These chicks in these white cheerful boxes look so simple and there is a whole incredible story behind what it takes to make this stage happen. Thank you for your support of us so we can continue to do so! The last 100 At long last we are down to the last 100 supers. 😅 Now I’m aware to be still extracting now is crazy and I agree. Combination of reasons why this is the case. Work load (big spike in sales in the run up to Christmas keeping me away from honey extracting). We purchased another bee-farmers business so had more bees to look after (now manage bees across 3 counties) and it’s just me extracting and doing the bee work. Lessons that I’ve learned in 2023. The problem with growing any business is growth is expensive. You can increase your bee numbers then your honey extracting facilities are too small to cope. The work load becomes too big for one beekeeper. And the jarring needs to be done in a different room to the extracting room allowing both to be carried out simultaneously. 2024 will be another year of growth for us, mainly on correcting the above problems and bottlenecks. We will be looking hard on efficiency and where we can make improvements. The down side of this….it will be expensive to do but in the long run will be worth it. I’ve always said, “do the best you can with what you have”. Even if it takes you longer to do. It’s the journey that’s important in life.
